WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Candidate must be initiative-taking, taking ownership of the financial position with a powerful desire to help build/grow the business. The role must have keen focus on operational reporting, delivering key insights to drive change and growth throughout Mustang and must closely collaborate with other operational teams. You would be joining an experienced team focused on growing the business through category and regional sales as well as online opportunities. The Candidate will have a strong costing and or manufacturing background.

STRUCTURE

The Director of Finance is a critical part of the executive team, reporting directly to the President of Mustang Survival and the Corporate CFO of the Wing Group. The role directly supervisors two Controllers and the AR Manager. This position acts as backup for the payroll cycles to the Controller supporting the People and Culture team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting and Accounting policies and procedures

  • Ownership of the monthly Accounting / Reporting of Mustang Survival US, UK and Canadian divisions including the P&L and Balance Sheet.
  • Monthly accounting for consolidation into the company’s financial statements, requiring close collaboration with group finance teams.
  • Own Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Collaborate with Planning on rolling 12-month sales projection models to support forecasting and budgeting.
  • Partner with other Operational functions to create change management and communication strategies to ensure strong adoption of processes and practices across the business.
  • Oversees the preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statements and reports. Ensures that external document submissions and filings are accurate and timely.
  • Coordinates corporate tax reporting requirements, including transfer pricing applications per regulations. Works with external accountants to file Canadian and US tax returns.
  • Develops, coordinate, monitors and supports Department budget and business plans.
  • Analyse Revenue, COGS and Margin results and provide feedback to various areas of the business on results with follow up.
  • Supports the coordination of the annual audit with the Controllers. Ensures that accounting records and reports follow GAAP and government regulations. Cooperates with and assists external auditors as appropriate.
  • Oversees and coordinates the preparation and control of quarterly forecasts and annual operational budgets.
  • Completes reports and analyses of departmental and area operations as requested by Senior Management. Conducts cost analysis, ratio and trend analysis, and other comparative examinations as appropriate. Works with Operation managers to provide cost accounting and performance reports.

Daily operations and administrative functions

  • Ensures effective financial internal controls for the Department and the Company, including controls over inventory counts, fixed assets and cash management.
  • Act as backup for review of bi-weekly salary and hourly payrolls to the Controller.
  • Coordinates accounting information systems, which track specific operational and financial data. Works to implement and update systems including operational and financial systems, HR/payroll, fixed asset management, expense management, cash management, etc.
  • Completes financial analysis of Company cash flow, investment strategies, banking relationships, debt management, etc. Develops and implements improvements as appropriate. Tracks and manages movements of cash flow to optimise the movement of cash and improve EBITDA.

Effective Communications

  • Advises department managers regarding accounting updates and requirements.
  • Ensures that all employees are well informed of accounting policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and committees as appropriate.

Supervision of Finance Leaders

  • Oversees hiring and succession planning for the Department Finance Leaders. Assesses staffing requirements and fills open positions with qualified candidates.
  • Provides leadership to accounting personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducts meetings to ensure that personnel are well informed of changes in programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Trains, directs, and coordinates personnel. Ensures that training and development needs are met and aids and support as needed.
  • Conducts performance appraisals as assigned. Provides measurable feedback to direct reports and suggestions for improved performance. Formulates and implements employee corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications

  • Designated CPA with Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 3-5 years senior-level experience in financial or administration roles.
  • Professional experience in financial analysis, reporting and finance operations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data and trends into key insights and recommendations.
  • Financial acumen and ability to build forecasts, manager budgets and develop various financial models.
  • Experience building and leading high quality, efficient teams, mentoring direct reports and collaborating in cross functional environments.
  • Understanding and use of cost accounting. Must have working knowledge of using accruals versus actual and reporting variance.
  • Ability to maintain confidence, build trust, and adapt to changing business requirements with high sense of personal responsibility.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership, stress management, and time management skills.
  • Preference to work in a fast-paced, high growth environment.
  • NetSuite experience a strong plus with the ability to create KPI’s and scorecards.
  • Shopify and ecommerce experience a plus.
  • High proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint
