Role
Edmonton Criminal Court is look for enthusiastic individual who can provide administrative support to the Senior Manager of the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Manager, and the Administrator of Provincial Criminal.
The responsibilities of this position include general office administration dealing with confidential matters pertaining to personnel, budgets, typing of legal documents and assisting with the preparation of monthly reports within strict deadlines.
Some of the responsibilities include:
- Maintains a filing system for all correspondence and documents and updates all manuals, statues, Rules of Court, and policy directives.
- Gathers and prepares statistical reports as required.
- Schedules meeting for management, type agendas, attends meetings and prepares minutes for distribution.
- Maintains and orders office supplies, furniture, and equipment. Purchases are made using the Alberta Government procurement card, by phone/Fax or by online over computer.
- Reconciles purchases on the procurement card system on the computer, ensuring compliance with financial directives.
- Monitors telephone invoices using the EPS computer system, ensuring accuracy of billings and the telephone inventory.

- Processes expense claims for management using exclaim and maintains justice of the peace expense claims from the bail office.
- Maintains fixed inventory asset inventory. Arrange for any repairs and make arrangements to surplus furniture and equipment.
- Answers inquiries from staff regarding benefits, entitlements, regulation and administrative policies.
Ideal Candidate will possess:
- High level of communications skills in dealing with complex personnel, budgetary and payroll issues.
- Extensive knowledge of the pertinent rules, manuals, policy directives and procedures.
- Should be able to take initiative and sound judgement in deciding methods of handling day to day and emergent situations.
- Interested in learning, demonstrate initiative and flexibility and be willing to perform additional tasks as required.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to deal with the complex and heavy workload, along with the ability to act independently with little or no supervision.
- Must exercise sound judgement in the decision-making process in relation to position duties.
- Computer keyboarding skills are essential and extensive knowledge of various software programs is needed.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School diploma plus three years of progressively responsible related office administrative experience.
Assets & Preference:
- A Legal Assistant Diploma and related legal office experience, providing an understanding of criminal law and law enforcement practices are assets.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office is essential.
Equivalency Considered:
- One year of experience for one year of education OR
- One year of education for one year of experience.

Salary
$1,861.71 – $2,279.37 bi-weekly
Notes
The Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, and the Provincial Court of Alberta (the Courts) each have their own policy aside from the Government of Alberta proof of COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. The Courts’ COVID Vaccination Policy requires all staff to be fully vaccinated to access courtrooms in the Alberta courthouses effective November 1, 2021.
This position work Monday to Friday 8:15AM-4:30PM, 36.25 hours per week.
Note: This is a full time, temporary position for the period of 12 Months
This position involves extensive keyboarding and extended periods of sitting and/or standing. This position may be required to work overtime with very little notice.
