The Agriculture Assistant is responsible for supporting activities of the Heinz Seed breeding program located in Leamington Ontario, including but not limited to seeding, transplanting, plot and greenhouse upkeep, field sampling/data collection, seed harvesting, hybrid crossing and other seasonal and general duties in the Leamington winter greenhouse.

Responsibilities:

Perform greenhouse crop upkeep tasks including pruning, clipping, and tying up of plants.

Assist in tomato hybrid crossing in the greenhouse and field

Assist in seasonal operational tasks, such as seeding, transplanting, weed control, harvesting tomatoes for testing and seed and data collection.

Cleaning of Greenhouse and designated work area

Report signs of insect or disease damage.

Assist in special projects, as needed.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Prior agriculture experience is a plus.

Proficient in utilizing a computer to complete various aspects of the job, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, etc.

Ability to analyze, solve problems, organize, communicate effectively, perform duties as requested and work as a team are required in this position.

Possesses a high level of detail and accuracy.

Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time under different weather conditions.

Must have valid driver’s license, as you may drive a company vehicle.

Legally eligible to work in Canada.
