The Associate will work alongside, and provide commercial mortgage transaction support to, the Commercial Origination Team in CMLS’ London, Ontario office. The Assoicate will be responsible for the underwriting, analysis, credit approval support and funding support required by the Commercial Origination Team to ensure their clients’ financing objectives are achieved. You will become part of a top-performing team comprised of established and seasoned commercial Originators enjoying great success in the industry with the ability to learn from our leaders. About the Role

This role is for someone who is ambitious, results-oriented, has a strong desire to continue learning and getting more meaningful experience in the commercial mortgage advisory and lending industry. This role is for a person with a long-term growth and earnings outlook, focused on building a strong reputation in the commercial advisory and lending industry, who has high attention to detail, takes great pride in their work and works well within a team environment. Someone who is very organized, has a sense of urgency, an entrepreneurial spirit and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude works best in our environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and compile market data, review property-related documents and information, and perform underwriting and sensitivity analysis to assess debt and equity financing options for client transactions
  • Review of third-party reports (including but not limited to appraisals, environmental site assessments and market studies) to ensure clarity/accuracy in support of financing objectives
  • Review of letters of interest, commitment letters and other financing documents
  • Work with third parties and various stakeholder groups (including lenders, engineers, appraisers, etc.) to collect, prepare and review due diligence items/information required to achieve credit approval and/or satisfy conditions precedent to funding
  • Appropriately label and sort information received to maintain organized files related to active and prospective deals
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the team

This role is for you, if you have:

  • An undergraduate degree in one of the following concentrations: finance, economics, urban land development, real estate, accounting or business administration
  • 2-5 years of experience within commercial real estate capital markets and/or commercial lending at a major Financial Institution or commercial mortgage brokerage firm
  • Credit risk experience or Analyst experience (considered a strong asset)
  • Obtained or are pursuing relevant designations (CFA, CAIA, FRM, etc. would be considered a strong asset)
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to problem solve and think creatively to provide flexible solutions to our clients
  • Strong listening, communication, and negotiation skills
  • A high level of motivation and you are very results-driven
  • A high level of computer proficiency, with intermediate to advanced knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g. Functions, Financial Modelling)
  • A passion for commercial real estate
  • A demonstrated ability to work successfully within a team
