The Learning Division, within the Ministry of Education, is responsible for providing leadership and support to school districts in the areas of Indigenous Education, Inclusive Education, Early Learning, French Programs, Student Wellness and Safety, Student Hunger, Anti-Racism, Strategic Priorities and Mental Health in Schools. Through a focus on personalized learning, the Learning Division promotes choice and flexibility, student engagement, and strong basic skills and competencies.
Located within the Learning Division, within the Ministry of Education, the Indigenous Education Branch, develops, coordinates and implements a range of policies, strategies, programs and agreements related to Indigenous Education to enable the K-12 system to improve the school success of Indigenous students. The Branch has responsibility for implementing the BC Tripartite Education Agreement, overseeing activities related to Indigenous Education in BC’s public schools as well as working closely with a broad range of partners, including Indigenous organizations and communities. The Branch provides promising-practice for school district programs, supports School Districts in system change initiatives to better meet the needs of Indigenous students, works with Indigenous organizations and communities, federal partners and collaborates with other Ministries and agencies. The Indigenous Education Branch works closely with other branches within the Ministry to ensure that initiatives are directly aligned with the goals outlined in agreements with Indigenous organizations and to support government’s direction to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
This position assumes a leadership role in developing and managing strategic, high impact/risk stakeholder relationships, including the management of multi-disciplinary projects and initiatives.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Post-secondary degree in education, public administration, or a related field; OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership roles in a professional service or stakeholder management environment.
- Experience establishing collaborative relationships with senior leaders within an organization, government, or within Indigenous communities.
- Experience leading organizational change with implementation of new learning strategies.
- Experience leading and coaching multi-disciplinary teams in the development and implementation of a diverse range of projects related to Indigenous learning.
Preference may be given to applicants who:
- Have experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
- Self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
