Job title: Corporate Accounting Supervisor
Job description: We’re currently recruiting for a Supervisor, Corporate Accounting to perform journal entry approval and balance sheet accounts review within the accounting operation function at Aviva Canada.
The primary responsibilities involve full accountability for all accounting activities within our Corporate Accounting team and their related audit queries, timely completion of balance sheet accounts review for the consolidated companies and broker companies.
As the Supervisor, Corporate Accounting you will manage a team of Financial Analysts.
To be successful, the Supervisor, Corporate Accounting will exercise good judgment in terms of technical accounting knowledge and effective verbal and written communication with peers and managers. The customer base includes Financial Reporting, Business partners, Reserving, Claims operations, Billing and Taxation teams. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Finance Operations.

What you’ll do:
Approve manual journal entries within the materiality limit.
Perform review and approval on account reconciliation for those GL accounts assigned to our Corporate Accounting team.
Prepare monthly Balance Sheet accounts review package for Aviva Canada Inc., with detailed explanation, backed by accurate supporting document of material variances in key accounts. The Balance Sheet accounts review should be prepared in both UKIFRS and CIFRS basis.
Prepare monthly Equity and Retained Earning reconciliation for Aviva Canada Inc consolidated companies and bridging the difference between UKIFRS and CIFRS basis.
Perform random account reconciliation review on key accounts owned by other finance departments.
Complete responsibility of the Broker accounting for Aviva owned brokers and their subsidiaries. Verify accuracy of data processing and financial statements for owned brokers.
Maintain the reporting template for the consolidated P&L results in UKIFRS and CIFRS basis and the bridging analysis.
Act as the subject matter authority in accounting operations to support special finance projects.
What you’ll bring:
An accounting designation (CGA or CA) with a university degree in Business Administration or Commerce.
Over 3 years experience in a Senior accountant role with supervisory experience.
A solid understanding of financial services industry (general insurance and/or life insurance)
Good understanding of the various aspects of Accounting operations and the associated accounting dynamics.
Excellent relationship builder and communicator with shown leadership and motivation ability
Strong technical experience with Oracle Financials (R12 version)
Experience with Hyperion Essbase
Experience working with multiple legal entities and intercompany transactions an asset.
Strong analytical skills and detail oriented
Shown ability to embrace and lead change, be highly adaptable and flexible, decisive and display excellent judgement
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
Strong accountability & ownership, professional ethics, and integrity.
Strong sense of customer focus, quality results oriented, managing partner’s expectation and timely communication.
