This position performs a critical role in achieving the primary objectives of the operationalization Risk Integrity (RI) Implementation and its ongoing support as it is being fully integrated in a business as usual environment. The objectives of RI operationalization are to perform a key role in the support of the (a) Integration into the overall SunRise architecture with automated data flows to and from actuarial and accounting systems, and (b) validations of the methodology of Contractual Service Margin (CSM) calculations and functionality of data flow processes through unit testing and functional testing as it moves into production.
The incumbent will work with other finance, actuarial and IT SME’s involved in the operation of RI. The incumbent will also provide guidance and direction to accounting resources involved with the maintenance and support of RI. SMEs will include both central finance and actuarial resources and BG/BU representatives. The incumbent will also work (e.g. coordinate, discuss, challenge, etc.) with the vendor (Moody’s). Once RI is fully implemented, the role will be required to support the RI tools and apply similar implementation and support activities as well as potentially other tools (to be defined) supporting RI as the Finance SME on new product implementations, system changes, and upgrades.
Responsibilities
1) Activities related to ongoing development, system changes, or upgrades:
- Gather requirements and data, including
- Where testing is involved, develop configuration files and other data input feeds to Risk Integrity
- Generate, export and compare results to simulate expected results, including
- Iterate and refine input and calculations
- Documentation of all steps and processes, including test results
2) Perform a key role in the development of the future state operating model related to finance related activities for RI:
3) CSM testing and configuration
Perform a key role in the testing of product configurations throughout the CSM implementation and its ongoing support for future changes and upgrades
4) Accounting processes
Develop and maintain a strong understanding of how the RI integrity solution fits into the Company’s architecture
5) Documentation
Develop documentation of key decisions, processes, workarounds as required
Preferred Skills
- Strong technical knowledge with MS Excel and Analysis for Office (AfO).
- Experience with Moody’s Risk Integrity and SAP General Ledger would be a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong accounting skills – ability to relate to and challenge accounting generated from RI, ability to understand where choices may be appropriate, ability to recommend and/or challenge alternate solutions
- Good insurance knowledge – ability to understand key insurance concepts (e.g. experience, cash flows, actuarial model results)
- IFRS 17 knowledge desirable – ability to quickly learn and apply CSM/LC under all measurement models
- Works well independently – self-motivate, ability to prioritize activities, takes initiative
- People management: the role may manage people in the future as the group grows
- Strong communication skills – ability to communicate complex topics, able to deal effectively with various levels of management and multiple stakeholders.
- Strong writing skills – ability to develop clear and complete documentation
- Management and organization skills – ability to plan, prioritize and organize competing activities throughout project life cycle
Qualifications
- Accounting Degree with 10+ years of insurance financial accounting and reporting experience, designated accountant.
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
