About the Role
SFU’s Communication & Marketing team is looking for a strategically minded media relations and public relations professional to join our fun and engaging group.
The Director oversees day-to day media requests in consultation with senior administrative staff and key stakeholders about institutional programs, services and issues that the university is facing. You are able to speak to media and represent the Senior Director, Media Relations & Public Affairs as required. This role provides advice and guidance to senior leaders on proactive issues management and communications strategy, as well as key messages to respond to SFU community members. The Director collaborates with the larger team, and faculty and departments, to grow the university’s reputation.
You thrive in a diverse and changing environment and excel in issues management and communication strategy with a results-driven focus. You have a strong service-oriented approach and enjoy working in a busy collaborative environment with a group of highly skilled and friendly communications professionals.
The ideal candidate has significant experience in issues management, crisis communications and media relations for diverse and complex organizations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications and seven years of related experience which includes experience leading large teams and managing complex projects, or an equivalent level of education, training, and experience.
- Proven communication strategist with a results-driven focus.
- Excellent communication and marketing skills across all aspects of communications and public relations programming (e.g., media relations, marketing, events, partnership outreach and engagement).
- Strong issues management and media relations experience.
- Excellent knowledge of marketing, branding, and communication theory and practice.
- Excellent knowledge and expertise in client service management and trusted advisor principles.
