Job title: Director of Project and Operational Finance
Job description: Simpleray’s Director of Project and Operational Finance is responsible for keeping the organization healthy and our large projects funded, insured, and on favorable terms. The role is responsible for clear job costing and expense accountability, clear KPI (and other) reporting, and full cycle management of our Project Finance division. This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations, managing organizational risks, an effective departmental resource planning process, and keeping relevant external parties informed and engaged on company results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring that all our actions across our team are conducted in an environment that supports our mission, protects our assets, and keeps our operations on track.
- Guiding the annual budget and monthly re-forecast processes. Ensuring Simpleray is spending our money in the right places to maximize value.
- Overseeing the preparation of all internal and external reporting; Ensuring on-time delivery of financials to relevant stakeholders.
- Providing leadership, direction, and management of the Project and Operational Finance teams. Ensuring all processes are documented and being executed effectively across our team.
- Owning the relationship with third parties: external auditors, external consultants, and Lawyers. Quickly quarterbacking legal requests through counsel.
- Being the internal expert on financial policies (there are times you will need consultants)
- Ensuring Simpleray is compliant with all laws, regulations, and financial best practices.
- Driving monthly, quarterly, and annual planning efforts forward with the executive team.
- Managing the process to define Company OKRs w/ Leadership Team in 2022 and beyond. Ensuring our strategy and OKRs are shifting with the changing landscape.
- Ensuring departmental OKRs support Simpleray’s overarching OKRs so we can create organizational alignment and ensure we are achieving our vision as quickly as possible.
- Ensuring managers have the timely, accurate, and relevant information they need to assess their performance in achieving their OKRs. Where gaps exist, you will offer solutions to the best of your ability.
- Serving as a cross-functional consultant for Simpleray’s teams. Helping develop recommendations and business cases for the executive team, and providing analysis to support decisions at all levels.
- Encouraging each department to focus on creating value in all decisions. Whether that is increasing Simpleray’s value OR most importantly, the value we provide to our customers.
Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS
- 6+ years experience as a designated finance leader who took ownership and became a key contributor in both strategic and operational areas in previous roles.
- 6+ years experience in corporate divisions such as Financial Planning, Bizops, or Corporate Development with demonstrated cross-functional and collaborative project or team management experience, and a track record of leveraging data for business impact.
- 3+ years helping drive strategic planning processes and independently turning strategic plans into tangible departmental actions that allow the organization to achieve its mission and vision.
- A history of identifying and developing business cases for strategic growth opportunities and operational improvements and gracefully leading teams to execute projects from proposal to implementation
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP as well as best practice enterprise risk management and process control frameworks. Understanding of relevant regulations, principles, laws, and financial best practices.
- Ability to quarterback legal reviews with external counsel.
- Expert knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting. Data driven and value focused approach to resource allocation; Influencer of value levers. You love financial modelling.
- Previous experience in Project Finance is an asset but not required.
- Polished communication skills and the ability to translate financial and business concepts, trends, reports, and forecasts to non-expert staff, board members, and stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize and reprioritize many competing, important activities while staying calm, balanced, focused, and in control.
- A self-starter with the ability to quickly respond to problems independently and proactively address conflicting stakeholder requirements to achieve creative compromise.

Legal and other external 3rd party reviews are quarterbacked effectively and within service standards. You are able to make judgment calls in negotiating clauses and terms, sometimes independent of legal counsel.
Organized and effective management of the rolling and static budgeting processes. Clear line-item ownership established across the org, internal controls are public company quality, and you are keeping the treasury healthy.
Effectively quarterbacking large projects while supporting or influencing engineering, operational, sales, finance, and other teams. You are very organized and clear. You stay ahead of deadlines and reliably get the job done.
Full compliance with all local and interstate laws, regulations, tax requirements, accounting standards, agreements, bank covenants, and other applicable laws, regulations, agreements, and best practices.
Clear documentation of enterprise and process level risks. You use clear frameworks to communicate your findings clearly and succinctly.
