Job Description:
NVIT anticipates a need for a Finance Advisor at either the Merritt or Burnaby Campus and invites applications from qualified candidates. This will be a full-time, ongoing exempt position starting as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
Job Summary/Responsibilities:
The Finance Advisor provides direct day-to-day advising and communication to all managers and department heads, regarding their respective funding allocations, sections, and budgets. The Finance Advisor must be extremely organized, have exceptional attention to details, and capable of working without direct supervision. The Finance Advisor will also work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Finance, and other leadership team members on various confidential financial matters. The Finance Advisor will oversee and manage the budgets across all the divisions in the institute and will review performance with each divisional manager monthly. This includes the development of divisional reports which will allow a monthly analysis of where budgets are significantly over or under budget. The Finance Advisor will develop and maintain a respectful working relationship with key members in other departments to ensure various internal institute procedures are followed efficiently and promptly. The position advises and reviews sensitive and confidential material regarding the institute’s financial position. The Finance Advisor will provide reports and presentations to the board on budgetary items and risk assessment with the Director of Finance. The finance advisor provides confidential support for the annual audit and any other related finance tasks deemed fit will be assigned to the Finance Advisor by the Chief Financial Advisor. The Finance Advisor will also oversee the duties of the Receptionist at the Burnaby campus.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Accounting knowledge;
- Ability to successfully prioritize and organize work-flow and multiple demands in a busy, fast paced environment. This also includes responding efficiently and promptly to internal and external community;
- Excellent communication skills (written, oral, interpersonal) combined with outstanding human relations, team building and organizational skills;
- Advanced skills using the Microsoft Office suite of applications;
- Experience with integrated systems (e.g. Colleague or Banner) along with SharePoint and Learning Management System (e.g. Moodle) experience;
- Understanding of Canada’s colonial history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing;
- Practice from a holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed lens;
- Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, and Indigenous lived experiences;
- Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships to achieve outcomes in the best interest of students & NVIT;
- A demonstrated commitment to quality service to students and the public;
