About This Opportunity
The Senior Financial Analyst position works as the key finance liaison with several Market Units within the Western Canada Operating Unit. It includes being a key contributor in monthly forecasting, monthly profit & loss statement reviews, reporting, and annual business planning. This position will be responsible for interpreting, analyzing and actioning revenue and operating expense variances and forecasting results for the remaining year.
In this role you will prepare analysis that provides operational insight at both an Operating Unit level as well as across various Market Units. The role will assist Operations extensively in maximizing market unit profitability and efficiency. You will be involved in the annual budget creation inclusive of full operating expenditure planning and phasing. The role is highly operational focused and understanding the business is key in the success of this role.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and enhance standardized weekly and monthly finance and operational reports
- Assist the OU Controller with reporting out impacts of revenue and cost variances versus budget for sales, distribution and warehousing and explaining why the variances occurred
- Complete month-end and year-end closing functions that pertain to profit and loss statement management and provide coverage for other team members which includes participating in month end routines inclusive of detailed Profit and Loss analysis for two Market Units, booking journal entries and performing reconciliations
- Working with project team members to understand initiatives and to provide logic and templates for tracking productivity initiatives savings
- Verify productivity initiative savings reported by project owners
- Volume/price/mix analysis on Market Unit and Operating Unit revenue
- Work with the team in preparing a detailed annual budget with business partners and other cross functional teams, scaling and presentation process (creation and delivery)
- Focus on continual process improvement and ensure compliance and control, create if/as needed, standard procedures and policies to drive efficiencies and savings
- Develop and maintain solid partnerships with stakeholders including finance counterparts, general managers, operations managers and capability leads
- Participate and manage ad-hoc projects and other duties as required
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
- MBA and or CPA preferred
Professional Experience
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance (SFA level)
- Excellent knowledge of Excel
- Excellent analytical approach with an understanding of revenue and spend management
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with others
- Strong communication and business writing skills
- Flexibility to adjust workload and hours when necessary
- SAP experience is an asset
- Experience with a National Retail, Wholesale or Manufacturing organization would be considered an asset
