Job title: Finance Business Partner, Budgets (1-year contract)

Job description: The Finance Business Partner, Budgets supports departments’ financial success under an Activities Based Budgeting (ABB) environment. The incumbent will play a key role in the budget development and financial planning and reporting activities and the roll out of ABB by acting as a key advisor for Sheridan’s budget holders, using the newly implemented budgeting software. The incumbent will manage a portfolio of business units and partner with them by providing analytical support, training to use the budgeting software and assistance for better financial management under the new ABB budget model.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Developing and managing the College budget for departments within the incumbent’s portfolio, by performing year-round budgeting and financial planning activities;
  • Learning and becoming an expert in the new budgeting software (Questica) and providing support to business units for budgeting within Questica under the new ABB model;
  • Partnering with internal clients throughout the year to review budget vs. actual for revenues and expenses, supply information to assist with forecasting and reporting by month, by term, etc.;
  • Actively assisting internal clients by responding to their requests, resolving budget issues, and recommending solutions to support their business and financial decision-making;
  • Liaising with budget holders to gather confidential information such as work force planning, planned hiring’s/attrition/position movements, and planned changes in organizational structures, and properly reflect the changes in the College salary budget;
  • Participating, in collaboration with the Director, in the rollout of the ABB implementation;
  • Participating in various process improvement activities in cross-functional teams to enhance business units’ financial management process and strengthen financial accountability
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related degree along with 5 years of progressive budgeting or financial planning experience (Equivalency to be considered)
  • Currently holds a CPA designation (i.e., CA, CGA or CMA)
  • Solid financial and analytical skills, including experience with budgets and forecasts, operating plans, financial analysis, financial statement preparation, and funded contract administration
  • Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills; Mastery in the creation of complex financial models
  • Working knowledge of CICA and PSA (Public Sector Accounting) standards
  • Understanding of ABB/RCM principles, or strong desire to learn
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and accounting software, willing to learn new budgeting software
  • Experience implementing process improvements

Campus Location: Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This position is currently working remotely.
