Job description: Role Summary:
The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions and finance operations. The Finance Manager oversees all aspects of financial reporting and is responsible for supporting the company’s long-term financial goals by coordinating with 3rd parties, preparing financial analyses, and identifying areas of opportunity to improve the company’s financial health. This individual reports to the Director of Finance.

Essential Role Functions:
Accounting and Financial Operations
- Manage the accounts payable function ensuring payments are processed in a timely manner and in a manner consistent with the company’s cash availability and needs
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledgers and chart of accounts
- Assist the payroll function in ensuring all employees and contractors are paid accurately and on-time, and payroll is processed in compliance with federal, provincial and state regulations
- Oversee and manage lease accounting, landlord reporting and lease renewal dates
- Manage tax compliance requirements, including sales tax filings and coordinating preparation of annual corporate tax returns with external accountants
Financial Reporting
- Assist with month-end financial reporting process to meet internal and external stakeholder requirements
- Provide analysis of the causes of identified variances and identifying trends that may have an impact on financial performance
- Provide support for data and information requests from internal and external stakeholders (e.g. government audits, investors/lenders, etc.)
- Assist with the completion of annual reviewed financial statements, including liaising with external accounting firm
- Research and implement newly issued accounting standards in accordance with US GAAP
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance to establish company-wide forecasts and budgets and support ability to track actual performance vs. forecasts
- Manage company capitalization (debt and equity) and collaborate with the Director of Finance to identify opportunities to improve capital efficiency
- Correspond with banks, lenders, and government agencies to identify financing opportunities and ensure the company manages payment and reporting requirements
Measures of Success:
- Invoices are paid on-time and with consideration to cash management needs
- Payroll is processed on-time and error-free
- Timely and materially accurate period-end reporting, including monthly and annual financial statements
- Government tax compliance deadlines are met
- Timely responses to inquiries received from internal and external stakeholders
- Recommends and executes on opportunities for cost saving, operational improvement, and better cash management across the business
Technical Skills & Experience:
- 4+ years related experience in a finance or accounting environment
- Strong communication skills – ability to collaborate with various departments across the organization
- Ability to work effectively in a multi system environment
- Advanced Excel skills required (data downloading, efficient manipulation and analysis)
- Knowledge and experience with US GAAP
- Detail and deadline oriented
Education:
University Degree – Accounting
Accreditations – Finance Designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) preferred
