The Hospitality Worker provides janitorial, laundry and housekeeping support for Ontario Camping Ministries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support Services/Housekeeping/Janitorial

  • Responsible for general cleaning which includes, daily vacuuming and dusting; cleaning and disinfecting washrooms, auditorium, meeting spaces, cabins, and guestrooms; replenishing of supplies as needed.
  • Daily vacuuming and periodic dusting of buildings (Auditoriums, rooms, hallways, laundry facilities, lounge, and foyer).
  • Clean and disinfect all hygienic areas, including washrooms, basins, toilet bowls, bathtubs, and urinals; restocks washroom supplies and distributes and received materials as required.
  • Empty all waste baskets and garbage receptacles.
  • Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice etc.
  • Arrive before rental groups to ensure the following, doors are unlocked, heat is turned on (if needed), check lights, turn on hot water, turn on porch lights for evening arrivals, set up any equipment that has been requested and set up rooms as requested.
  • Greet group upon their arrival, review documents to ensure guest numbers and rooms; check in with group at each break, and during each meal etc.
  • When guests depart be available, do a walk through the buildings to note any damage, do grounds check for garbage, turn off heat, turn off lights and lock buildings etc.
  • Assist with dining hall setup and clean up. May be required to help with kitchen duties, examples: dish pit, dining room attendant.
  • Assist hospitality Supervisor with off season maintenance which includes but not limited; stripping and waxing floors, washing walls and doors.
  • Sanitization of all spaces used by guest groups several times a day in accordance with COVID protocols stated by health and safety guidelines.
  • Bed bug protocol as directed by Hospitality Supervisor.

Health & Safety

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all WHMIS standards are met and SDS sheets are kept up to date.
  • Ensure that Infection Control Procedures are implemented and adhered to.

General

  • As required and as applicable, make suggestions to improve efficiency, working conditions or operations policies and procedures.
  • Promote the Ontario Camping Program in a supportive and professional manner to stakeholders.

Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 30 hours per week.
  • Exposure to disagreeable conditions: bending, stretching, lifting, cleaning, and disinfecting products, garbage and other odours, weather condition when working outside, verbal abuse from clients, etc.
  • The job requires a frequent amount standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required during camping season and/or during guest rentals on site.
  • Some travel may be required.

Note: there will be a seasonal temporary increase in hours up to a maximum of 40 per week during the months May to September 30 required for set up, during camps and after camps and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of Secondary School and some post-secondary course work.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Up to one (1) year of prior related experience and general familiarity with cleaning products.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle, and insurance, provide an original copy of current driver’s abstract for review and verification that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
