Job Description

The Indigenous Student Internship Program was developed for students identifying as Indigenous/Aboriginal Peoples of Canada (Status Indian, Non-Status Indian, Inuit or Métis), who are currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs, interested in business issues and curious about career opportunities within the finance and investments industry.

We are looking for a dynamic Intern Analyst to join the Performance Measurement team in CPP Investments’ Finance, Analytics & Risk (“FAR”) department in the Toronto Office for a four-month summer placement.

Performance Measurement calculates returns of the Fund’s investments and their benchmarks along multiple dimensions to assess performance. The team measures and attributes contributions of each Investment Department to the total Fund results as well as against their benchmarks. The team also provides ad hoc analysis on investment performance to support Management and Investment Departments’ needs.

As an intern you will help with investment performance measurement, monitoring and reporting activities of CPP Investments and ensure that performance returns, benchmark returns, and performance attribution are calculated correctly. In the role you will look at analytical reviews and ensure reasonability checks and established processes are completed and followed in accordance with CPP Investment Board Policies, Guidelines, and Procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that analytical reviews, reasonability checks and established processes outlined in CPP Investments procedures are completed and followed
  • Assists in developing tests and automating control checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of information being used to calculate performance benchmark and attribution results
  • Automates and streamlines existing processes within Performance Measurement
  • Participates in UAT testing for system upgrade or enhancement
  • Prepares timely performance measurement reports for scheduled and ad-hoc reporting commitments with high degree of quality and accuracy, including conducting thorough analysis on performance results, and investigating discrepancies and brings issues to resolution
  • Communicate investment results to related parties effectively, and actively participate in various discussions.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Students wishing to apply must be Indigenous/Aboriginal Peoples of Canada (Status Indian, Non-Status Indian, Inuit or Métis) and enrolled in an undergraduate program and will be returning to school in the fall of 2022
  • Working towards a degree in business, accounting or finance
  • Candidates with a strong track record of academic success while balancing extracurricular activities.
  • Candidates with a strong set of interpersonal, thought leadership, relationship building and communication skills.
  • Candidates that often combine energy, enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity, with a demonstrated interest in finance, analytics and risk.
