Job description: Your Opportunity:

This is a senior role, it’s not an entry level position. The storage environment consists of primarily Dell/EMC and NetApp products across the province in mainly 4 colocation facilities and a few smaller frames in about 7 hospital data centers where latency is critical. AHS has approximately 30+ PB of storage on PowerMax & PowerStore hosting all our critical environments, Isilon for archive and NetApp running CIFSs & NFS to over 120,000 users. The data protection is primarily CommVault and disk-based snapshots combined with site-to-site replication. This is a dynamic environment with thousands of health care business units requesting services from the storage team on a regular basis; these services support the most critical healthcare services throughout the province. This role requires excellent people skills dealing with clients and other teams, senior technical and some project management skills. The Senior Storage Admin delivers essential services to AHS with respect to storage and SAN services and data protection: gathering initial requirements for new or changing environments, design, documentation, and implementation of final solution(s); storage strategy creation, engineering, capacity management, performance & capacity management, continuous improvement; financial budget planning and standards development; incident and problem management; mentoring team members; long-term road map planning.

Description:

A successful candidate would represent the storage group to IT projects ensuring that these projects align with AHS standards, best practices and strategic direction. Leads continuous improvement projects and initiatives, manage purchases to budget, timelines and storage architecture, engineering and implementation staff. Able to work with massive scale and complexity for the current storage environment and will be able to ensure that the integrity of our existing environment is maintained as new technology solutions are implemented. Involved with tactical and strategic technology recommendations to IT leadership. Needs an in depth understanding of storage solutions for high availability technologies and disaster recovery solutions, block based, NAS, SAN and archive technologies. Capable of hands-on administration for implementation, troubleshooting and remediation, day to day admin work as it relates to a senior role or in support of junior staff (e.g. mentoring). Creation of operational runbooks, training plans and proven skills for day-to-day supervision and project management (e.g. storage frame migration project). On occasion perform installation, moves and escorts within the data center.

Required Qualifications:

Note: If you do NOT meet the following minimum requirements please do not apply. Bachelor’s degree, diploma or certification from recognized institution in IT or equivalent. 5-8+ years of senior storage admin work-related experience in a large and complex IT environment. Proven experience in managing project teams, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making, coaching and mentoring. Proven ability to foster relationships and partnerships with highly complex internal and external stakeholders. Experience in a health services or public sector environment, with an understanding of the alignment between business requirements and patient care services as well as the impacts internally and externally would be an asset. Ability to work with critical systems under tight timelines. Excellent analytical, problem solving, root cause analysis and critical thinking. Excellent organizational and planning skills. Excellent people skills as negotiation and conflict resolution skills are necessary.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Specialization and applied expert knowledge in Storage and SAN architecture and design with the following technologies: Dell-EMC: PowerMax, PowerStore, Unity, SRDF/Metro, AppSync, Isilon, DataDomain and SRM. NetApp: FAS8300/9000/A&C-Series arrays as well as 7-Mode and the most current clustered data ONTAP. Director level Brocade switches and SANNav. 3-5 years of design and operational experience with above arrays and SAN, as well as replication, snapshots, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with reporting, monitoring, alerting, management tools for storage systems, and shell scripting and programming in Python. Expert level knowledge of NAS – CIFS and NFS (50,000 + users). Knowledge of various enterprise storage solutions, with the ability to align competitive features with business needs of AHS. ITIL foundation certification and Service Management knowledge. Expertise in MS Office suite, including MS Project and Visio.
