About the role:

Provide technical support by responding to service requests from users related to the installation, use and maintenance of IT equipment. Ensure network and workstation security. Install and configure new workstations and inform users of the relevant company procedures, regulations and standards related to IT use, and ensure they are respected. Assess the latest hardware and software technologies. Complete other departmental duties as required.

More specifically, you will be tasked with:

  • Maintaining a stable, efficient and secure IT environment to ensure optimal availability of IT systems that comply with Glencore policies, guidelines and standards.
  • Installing new equipment and ensuring existing equipment (computers, printers, monitors) are functional. Installing and configuring new workstations. Installing the necessary software and ensuring it complies with Glencore standards.
  • Providing IT support (troubleshooting) to users and using the service request system to enter customer calls, prioritize and complete work, track solutions, follow up with users and close the requests.
  • Ensuring that data is automatically backed up every day and storing backup tapes.
  • Carrying out preventive maintenance on IT equipment, checking warranties on faulty equipment, sending equipment for repair or exchange, and renewing required maintenance equipment.
  • Placing purchase orders (PCs, network cards, hard drives, etc.). Maintaining an inventory of software licences and IT infrastructure (including PCs/laptops and printers) that are legally compliant.
  • Keeping systems running smoothly when network/infrastructure analysts are absent. You must be able to complete the analysts’ tasks.
  • Optimizing work to maintain the quality of IT services while enabling others to meet major project objectives.
  • Rolling out new technologies using test labs, trials and then large-scale deployment to ensure the delivery of effective IT solutions and services to users.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of IT technologies that relate to business needs. Must help IT users get the most out of their working environments by promoting efficiency and autonomy.
  • Must keep systems running smoothly when other IT technicians are absent. You must therefore be able to complete the other technicians’ tasks or have a list of contacts who can help keep the systems running smoothly.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to different locations across North America.

Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years as an IT Technician and intermediate Systems Analyst/Applications Analyst.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and French.
  • University degree or college diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology.
  • Expertise in communication protocols, system configuration software or internal system software, experience with operating systems, communication hardware and configuration.
  • Proven ability to manage all levels of customer relations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and good interpretation skills. Ability to apply innovative and creative solutions to improve or restructure existing application processes and services.
  • Proven conceptual skills to interpret and communicate operational and technical needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Autonomous, focused on results and customer service, able to work as part of a team.

Languages: Bilingual (French and English)

Travel:

Must be able to travel occasionally to different locations across North America.
