The University Health Network, where “above all else the needs of patients come first”, encompasses Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Michener Institute of Education at UHN. The breadth of research, the complexity of the cases treated, and the magnitude of its educational enterprise has made UHN a national and international resource for patient care, research and education. With a long tradition of groundbreaking firsts and a purpose of “Transforming lives and communities through excellence in care, discovery and learning”, the University Health Network (UHN), Canada’s largest research teaching hospital, brings together over 16,000 employees, more than 1,600 physicians, 8,000+ students, and many volunteers. UHN is a caring, creative place where amazing people are amazing the world.

The Manager, Education Intervention Development, is responsible for overseeing the development of high-quality educational interventions to support the Cancer Education research enterprise. Complex intervention research could fail to deliver interventions that are implementable, cost effective, transferable, and scalable in real world conditions if they are not rigorously developed and tested. To deliver intervention solutions for real world clinical practice, complex intervention research requires strong and early engagement with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers to shift the focus from the simple question of effectiveness to whether and how the intervention will be acceptable, implementable, cost effective, scalable, and transferable across contexts. In line with a broader conception of complexity, the scope of complex intervention research needs to include the development, identification, and evaluation of whole system interventions and the assessment of how interventions contribute to system change. The Manager Education Intervention Development is responsible for establishing processes to support engagement with stakeholder and for field testing interventions prior to formal evaluation.
