Every insurer licensed to write automobile liability insurance in these jurisdictions is a member of Facility Association. The affairs and business of FA is managed and controlled by a Board of Directors with authority Canada-wide. Position Summary

A key member of the Finance team, the incumbent manages the full cycle of the monthly process in the preparation and analysis of month-end and year-end financial statements for the Facility Association’s (FA) mechanisms (FARM, RSP, UAF). The Manager will conduct a detailed review of the work produced by their team and provide guidance, as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop/lead a high performing and engaged team of Accountants/Senior Accountants.

Coach, mentor, and develop career paths for direct reports, including formal annual performance reviews and development discussions.

Ensure the team adheres to the schedule for deliverables.

Review monthly balance sheet, income statement and any additional changes for FA’s mechanisms.

Review balance sheet, income statement entries, and the year-end disclosures and tables for FA’s mechanisms.

Take the lead on more complex financial/accounting matters and lead to resolution.

Ensure the monthly close process is adhered to and the financials for the mechanisms are accurate and timely. This includes the monthly journals, appropriate provisions and accruals, and reconciliations and worksheets for FA’s mechanisms.

Review, attest, and sign-off on CSAE 3416 controls for balance sheet and income statement accounts in a timely manner. Support the team on changes to the process.

Explain variances to prior month and outlook, coordinating with the FP&A function to provide insight into drivers and changes.

Oversee and liaise with external auditors for financial year-end & CSAE control audits; identify team members who will work with auditors on specific requests.

Review financial statements and coordinate with external auditors to ensure the audits are carried out in a timely and efficient manner. Resolve all queries from the external auditors.

Continually review process efficiencies and operationalize improvements successfully. Explore opportunities to adopt technology (e.g., SharePoint, Tableau) to automate manual processes within the department.

Monitor implementation of new accounting requirements and standards and provide recommendations and alternatives as needed.

Support special projects each year and work with cross functional teams to deliver results as required.

Communicate financial information in a way that can be understood by a non-financial audience.

Seek assistance from other team members and departments when required.

Experience and Qualifications

Post-secondary diploma or degree.

CPA designation (CPA, CA preferred).

Seven (7) to ten (10) years of relevant technical experience.

P&C experience is considered an asset.

At least three (3) years of people management experience, leading a team of direct reports

Advanced proficiency in MS Office suite and reporting tools, with an ability to learn new tools.

Demonstrated ability to lead and coach others

High attention to detail

Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills

Team player with a “can do” attitude
