Job description: Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located in Ottawa or Toronto and will be working at one of our site offices in Brampton (67 College Street) or Ottawa (1800 Alta Vista Drive), with a mixture of on and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement is subject to change, based on operational needs.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Manager, Strategic Financial Management to join our dynamic Strategic Financial Management team.

The Strategic Financial Management team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by managing the productivity and efficiency program, strategic productivity initiatives, business cases, international benchmarking, product costing, corporate planning, capital asset planning, budgeting, and forecasting through effective communication with senior management, field, and centralized support functions (i.e., IT, Finance and General Counsel).

In this role you will be responsible for the enhancement and reporting of the business and project budget, forecast, planning, reporting and project management processes and systems with the objective to provide timely, salient, meaningful data to internal stakeholders to drive business intelligence, decision making and overall efficiencies. Having strong business writing and presentation skills to senior management (L0, L1, L2), a thorough understanding of Canadian Blood Services business processes, including supply chain flows, business cost drivers, available data sets and various IT systems, will allow you to be successful in this role.

Formula for success

  • Drawing on your business partner expertise and preferably supply chain knowledge, you will plan and organize the activities related to the productivity and efficiency program and initiatives, international and industry benchmarking, product costing, request for proposal support, corporate planning, capital asset planning, budgeting as assigned through a team of indirect reports for client groups with highly complex operations.
  • You will take initiative to gain a deep knowledge of the business, project, or business area.
  • Using your superior customer service and interpersonal skills, you will provide support to finance business partner support to the client with regards to project management, international and industry benchmarking, budgeting, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Leveraging your analytical skills, you will conduct process improvement analysis and play a key role to identify and establish financial and non-financial key performance indicators (KPI).
  • You will manage reports and special analyses as required and provide financial and business administrative services required by the business, project, or business area.
  • Utilizing your excellent organizational and time management skills, you will plan, prioritize, and organize the activities related to productivity and efficiency program.

Desired education and skills

  • An Accounting designation with a bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
  • Over 7 years of progressive experience in a Senior Financial Analyst role. Ideally, you are currently in a mid-leadership level.
  • You will be required to have an understanding and experience in the use of SAP (or an equivalent ERP application) and IBM Planning Analytics (i.e., “TM1”) (or equivalent data analytics platform).

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of internal and external supply chains within a biologics, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting (preferably in a biologics, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing environment).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to communicate financial concepts effectively and concisely to non-financial stakeholders and executive management teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Experience in product costing is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling, data analysis tools such as PowerBI, IBM PA (TM1), and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sense of self-empowerment, and ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively across diverse teams and build relationships with key subject matter experts and influencers across various departments.
  • Experience in conducting financial modelling and scenario analysis to evaluate the financial impact of potential initiatives, investments, or changes in operations.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
