Job description: Position Overview
The International Development Program in Continuing Education is currently seeking several contract (term certain) Non-Credit Instructors for Information Communications Technology (ICT) courses, classroom delivery starting in 2023. These instructional positions are non-credit teaching appointments and, as such, are contract positions without benefits (other than those required by Employment Standards).
In support of the University of Calgary’s core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of high-quality lifelong learning opportunities.
Each year, UCCE serves over 20,000 adult learners and offers more than one thousand courses taught by hundreds of instructors-all experts in their fields. It is expected to fund, through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the university.
The success of University of Calgary Continuing Education in meeting its business target in a competitive environment is dependent upon effectively serving students and by providing high-quality instruction and programs.
Program Details:
Continuing Education International Professional Programs are full-time, professional development certificate programs that provide students with skills sought by employers. Students in the IPP are international students that are studying on a student visa. Student objectives after program graduation include working in a training-related field either in their home country or on a post-graduate work permit and potentially applying for permanent immigration. The priority is for IPP courses to be delivered in person.
The IPP planned programming for 2023 includes 47 ICT courses (18 sections in the Winter, 22 sections in the Spring/Summer, and 20 sections Fall). These courses are part of three certificate programs: i) Business Analysis, Intelligence, and Analytics, ii) Digital Media and Marketing, and iii) Project Management.

Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Create effective lessons plans, develop content, learning, presentations, assignments, evaluations, lab activities (where applicable)
- Utilize Desire2Learn (D2L) for course materials and student communication
- Create and manage an inclusive classroom environment
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry work experience in the field as well as education such as industry certifications and/or academic qualification.
- Previous teaching experience is essential; post-secondary teaching experience is preferred and experience teaching international and/or new Canadian students is a definite asset.
- Previous experience utilizing Learning Management Systems such as Desire2Learn, Blackboard or Moodle, is preferred.
- Adult Learning Certificate or equivalent is an asset.
