Job description: Summary

The Payroll Accounting Technician will assist with carrying out accounting functions for Precision Drilling Corporation as well as collaborate with HR, IT, Legal, and the Finance Department regarding all payroll processes

Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end payroll reporting, journal entries, accruals, and G/L account reconciliations for Canada and US payrolls
  • Preparation of payroll remittances to various third-party payees such as IRS, CRA, WCB/WSIB, wage garnishments, payroll taxes, etc.
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end balancing for Canada and US
  • Assist with issuance of year-end T4s, T4As, RL-1s, W-2s if required
  • Assist with benefit deductions reconciliations
  • Calculation and reconciliation of special payments
  • Assist/validate manual statutory holiday pay calculations
  • Internal and external audit assistance for US and Canada
  • Validation of employee vacation accruals, tracking sick days, keeping records
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of payroll systems and keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll
  • Assist Payroll Managers with project work and other duties as assigned
  • Liaison with HR, Benefits, Tax, IT, Legal, and Finance Department.

Knowledge & Skills

Experience in payroll, accounting, and general ledger account reconciliations

Strong attention to detail

Willingness to learn with a self-starter attitude and ability to work effectively and collaboratively in team environment

Ability to maintain composure under pressure, prioritize and meet tight deadlines

Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in dealing with personal information

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and deadline-oriented

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Experience in handling inquiries and providing excellent customer service

Experience working with SAP S/4Hana and Ceridian Dayforce system is preferred

Experience working with SuccessFactors is an asset

Previous payroll audit experience preferred

Education

Post-secondary education or equivalent experience with a focus on Accounting/Payroll considered an asset.

Experience

2+ years of professional payroll administration experience; comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing.
