We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow (PDF) who will assist the Principal Investigator, Dr. Vicki Squires for this SSHRC Partnership Development Grant project. The PDF will serve as a Research Coordinator based in the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan and will provide essential project management and research support for the research as described in the previous section.
This person will be a key liaison with the research teams at the other two institutions, University of British Columbia Vancouver and University of Windsor. They will engage in project management activities including: record keeping, organizing and scheduling meetings, completing administrative tasks, collecting and sharing resources and research outputs across the institutions and ensuring that action items are completed. Additionally, they will help mentor and coordinate the work of the team of 6 graduate research assistants; 2 RAs will be hired at each at the 3 institutions who are part of this project.
The PDF will also further their research expertise by participating fully in the research process with the USask team. Specifically, they will support the development and submission of the Research Ethics application, collect and analyze data at USask, and engage in knowledge dissemination activities such as article preparation, conference proposal submission and conference presentations.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
- Support the completion and submission of Research Ethics documents
- Mentor graduate research assistants
- Lead and administer core research team meetings
- Co-organizing monthly meetings of the steering committee comprising members from the three institutions
- Conduct semi-structured interviews with research participants and prepare transcripts of the interview
- Compile and organize data and conduct preliminary analysis
- Write a draft article based on the results
- Conduct administrative tasks and provide other research support and assistance as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
The ideal candidate should have recently completed a doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Education or related field.
To be hired as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Saskatchewan, researchers must be within 5 years of the date at which they received their PhD.
Experience:
- The successful applicant will have:
- Expertise in project management
- A strong background in qualitative research methodologies
- Superior academic writing skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal day-to-day supervision
- Ability to work productively as part of a research team
- Previous experience working respectfully and effectively with Indigenous communities and/or organizations.
- The successful candidate will have the ability to engage effectively with internal and external Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous stakeholders; have a knowledge of Indigenous social, cultural and economic issues, as they pertain to access to postsecondary education; have knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous traditions and protocols; knowledge of current campus support services will be considered an asset.
Remuneration: This is a full-time position remunerated at $38,000/year plus benefits.
Duration and Location: 12 months with the possibility of extension. Start time October 2022 (TBD according to availability but no later than November 2022)
