Sunshine Coast Community Services Society is a community-based organization that has been providing services for people on the Sunshine Coast since 1974. Summary:
The Program Assistant will support the volunteer component of the program, bringing innovation and ideas to support the volunteers and build capacity with the supported seniors. This position will also work with the community and engage in a needs assessment along the coast in order to provide the best service possible for isolated seniors. This position covers the whole coast and reports to the Lead, Better at Home.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement volunteer-based projects and services.
- Monitor service quality and responds to client feedback.
- Supports and promotes Better at Home’s non-medical support services.
- Build relationships with other local key organizations who work with seniors.
- Recruits, screens, trains, and oversees volunteers.
- Collect and record program data into program database and maintains records.
- Collaborates with other SCCSS programs to enrich program delivery and fulfill our mission more effectively.
- Obtains and maintains awareness of the demographic and socio-economic variables of the community and activity works to reduce barriers to services.
- Demonstrates cultural competency working with Indigenous families and community.
- Maintains client records and client files in keeping with program manual and SCCSS policy.
- Support the mission, vision, and values of SCCSS including participating in organizational-wide initiatives as interested or asked.
- Ensures effective service delivery consistent with agency mandate, and policy, meeting all legal, contractual, financial, and other compliance requirements.
- Stays current with SCCSS programs and services.
- Assists with other duties as required, from time to time, aiding with the efficient operation of the organization.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Post-secondary degree (social work, psychology, community development, geriatrics, etc) an asset
- Three years of related experience in a related field or the equivalent in education and experieince.
- Experience working with seniors and an understanding of issues facing the aging population, particularly in a rural setting.
- Ability to recruit, train, and work with volunteers and support capacity building.
- Experience with needs assessment and evaluation processes.
- Experience working effectively and in a non-judgmental manner with clients from different cultures, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience with program planning, evaluation, and reporting.
- Experience working in the non-profit sector is an asset.
- Ability to work flexible hours – may require evening and weekend work to meet the needs of the clients.
- Knowledge of relevant community resources, service providers and networks on the Sunshine Coast
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across programs and with community partners.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Access data base and online collaboration tools.
- Excellent communication, administrative, organizational skills and ability to work independently and well as in a team setting.
- Successful results of criminal records check.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required to attend meetings and events across the Coast.
- Strong knowledge of SCCSS programs and services.
