The Teck Legacy Properties (TLP) group, located in Kimberley, British Columbia, manages Teck’s closed assets primarily in Canada. The successful candidate has the option of working remotely with travel to the Kimberley office and sites as the need arises.

Reporting to the Reclamation Specialist, the Coordinator, Reclamation is responsible for assisting in the development of plans intended to support achievement of Teck’s sustainability goals biodiversity and closure. The individual in this role will support closure and reclamation programs for the Teck Legacy Properties portfolio, including planning and supervising field work.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules, and procedures.
  • Assist the Reclamation Specialist in development of plans and programs leading to successful reclamation and closure of legacy sites in multiple jurisdictions, such as Management Plans, End Land Use Plans, Closure Plans, Forest Management Plans, and Invasive Species Management Plans.
  • Plan, develop, and complete work in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Maintain and update weekly and monthly progress reports on reclamation projects and studies.
  • Assist leadership with annual reporting requirements.
  • Develop and present site engagement and supervisory plans for approval by site senior management and be responsible for daily time reports and invoices.
  • Coordinate contractors and consultants working on reclamation and invasive plant management treatments, forest management projects, and related monitoring programs.
  • Liaise with site Environment, Engineering, Social Performance, and Safety to ensure alignment with ongoing planning and operations.
  • Identify and find solutions for ongoing reclamation and monitoring programs.
  • Manage data collection methods with defined standards, reporting, and storage parameters.
  • Coordinate input of reclamation data into a centralized data management systems using geographic information systems platforms
  • Lead consultation and integration efforts with mine operations on annual reclamation and decommissioning programs and reporting
  • Prepare annual mine reclamation reports and other documentation as required, assists in development and reviewing of technical reports, presents technical information to a variety of audiences (e.g., internal/external, technical/non-technical), rights holders, communities of interest, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with development of project scopes, prepare, and track detailed project specific budgets required to implement work programs.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences (Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture), or Natural Resource field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two to five years’ experience in general environment, operations, or planning and project management in the natural resource sector.
  • Proven experience supervising field activities
  • Excellent writing skills with experience in development of strategic and operational plans.
  • Solid understanding of provincial and federal regulatory approvals practices, legislation, and regulations.
  • Experience with ecosystem mapping is required.
  • Experience in mining is an asset.
  • Experience with ArcMap – GIS is an asset.
