Reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting & Controller, they are seeking a Senior Manager, Finance (Corporate) who will provide leadership to the finance team and have overall responsibility for the consolidation and corporate reporting for this TSX-listed Company.
The Senior Manager will regularly be involved in overseeing the monthly close process and the preparation and delivery of presentations to the Corporate Leadership Team. The Manager, Finance must have solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Preferred candidates who have a professional designation such as the chartered professional accountant (CPA) designation and previous experience in public accounting are highly valued.
This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who has strong attention to detail and ability to roll up their sleeves in a fast-paced environment. This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Month-end and Year-end processes:
- Manage the accounting team to day-to-day accounting operations are performed accurately and timely including month end close.
- Responsible for balance sheet integrity – ensure reconciliations (including intercompany accounts) and complete and accurate
- Manage intercompany transactions between legal entities monthly
- Review and approve recurring journal entries and month-end journal entries
- Review Corporate P&L including corporate allocations between entities
- Identify, research, and resolve accounting errors and discrepancies.
- Ensure the consistency of financial processes and procedures, and continuously optimizes to gain efficiency
Budgets and variance analysis:
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts
- Lead analytical reviews for monthly/quarterly variance analysis and provides additional commentary where necessary.
Leadership:
- Lead and develop the corporate accounting team.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with other department personnel to obtain information and/or to correct transactions.
Other:
- Assist the Financial Reporting team with consolidation for external reporting
- Reviews and contributes to statutory statements on a legal entity basis
- Review and ensure accounting policies are in compliance with IFRS and Canadian GAAP
- Supports internal and external auditors where required
What You Bring
- Minimum of 5+ years of work experience
- Professional Accounting Designation required (CPA)
- Must have IFRS experience
- Experience with consolidation and intercompany transactions
- Experience in overseeing month general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close process to support an annual audit
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office, particularly intermediate MS Excel skills
- Experience with Joint Ventures considered an asset
- Experience with Workday ERP considered an asset
- Highly detailed, and robust analytical skills with the ability to resolve issues independently
- Ability to mentor and motivate staff to full potential
- Strong presence and demonstrated ability to build internal and external relationships
- Ability to clearly articulate ideas and positions to senior leaders.
