The Sr. Manager, Finance – Toronto Blue Jays will act as a key leader within the Blue Jays Finance team. Based out of Rogers Centre, this role will report into to the Director, Finance – Toronto Blue Jays, and will manage two direct reports (one Sr. Financial Analyst and one Manager, Finance).

What you’ll be doing:
The Sr. Manager, Finance – Toronto Blue Jays is a hybrid role that will split their time evenly between P&L Management and Capital Management.

P&L Management includes ownership of Business Operations operating expenses (including the Fan Experience & Concessions, Player Relations, Security & Gameday Staff, Technology, Marketing, Business Communications, In-Game Entertainment, Facility Management, Facility Maintenance, and Content & Production departments) as well as ownership over both the Merchandise and Food & Beverage revenue streams. Responsibilities that come with this component of the role include:

  • Providing guidance to your business partners during both annual Budget and quarterly Forecast processes.
  • Reviewing month-end journal entries, including revenue recognition and accrued liabilities entries.
  • Developing a deep understanding of actual results vs. budget, forecast, and prior year and presenting results to senior leadership at both the corporate (RCI) and business unit (Toronto Blue Jays) level.
  • Participating in cross-functional teams and lending financial expertise to business problems being faced by Business Operations.
  • Owning consolidated (Business Operations & Baseball Operations) headcount management and reporting.
  • Acting as a key relationship manager with Finance counterparts at Aramark (Blue Jays Food & Beverage provider).
  • Performing a regular review of Blue Jays corporate cost allocations.

Capital Management includes ownership over tracking and reporting for key capital initiatives at Rogers Centre. Responsibilities that come with this component of the role include:

  • Partnering with the Project Management department to ensure that capital costs are recorded in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Working with third party vendors in order to develop efficient payment processes.
  • Preparing actionable reporting on capital spend and presenting to senior leadership at both the corporate (RCI) and business unit (Toronto Blue Jays) level.
  • Liaising with key corporate (RCI) Finance functions (Controllers Group, Treasury, Procurement, Capital Management) to ensure all parties have the information they need in a timely manner.
  • Providing financial expertise to key capital investment decisions.
  • Preparing recommendations on useful lives of various capital projects.

What you have:

  • University degree with a specialization in business/accounting
  • CPA designation recommended
  • 5+ years work experience, including 2+ years in a people management role
  • Knowledge of and passion for baseball an asset
  • Experience with financial management in a construction/project management setting an asset
  • Highly advanced analytical skills and advanced Excel skills
  • Proficiency in Hyperion Smartview and Oracle Finance Systems an asset
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels and areas of the organization
