Role: The Specialist, French Translation & Communications will provide broad-based French communications translation support to Sysco Canada and specific program areas and internal departments within the organization. This includes, but is not limited to, producing, reviewing and editing a variety of content in both English and French and project managing all aspects of content translation and other key communications initiatives. The incumbent will be a strong communications generalist, with experience supporting strategies and campaigns that leverage all facets of the marketing communications mix. Their functional skill set will be accompanied by a strong customer service orientation, and collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset.
Role Responsibilities:
- Translate marketing content, from English to French and French to English, for both online and offline channels including web/digital, social media, video scripts (i.e. closed captioning), newsletters, information sheets, print and digital ads, press releases, job postings, etc.
- Responsible for customizing and managing all the details of the project plan and ensuring that all key data required for translation is proactively identified and collected in a timely and customer-friendly manner.
- Manage the flow of translation requests and assign work to external translators
- Manage the relationship with external translation vendors and coordinates reviews, as required.
- Oversees a small group of translation students
- Project manage a variety of communications projects, including those assigned to vendors. This will include, managing workflows, engaging internal and external stakeholders, and delivering quality products on time and on budget.
- Review and edit externally translated materials to ensure accuracy, consistent language use, and alignment with national messaging.
- Adhere to branding standards and guidelines to ensure a consistent and customer-friendly tone and voice for communications.
- Demonstrate communication excellence and marketing to our three levels of customers: External, Internal, and Vendor partners.
- Work collaboratively with the Sysco Canada marketing team, maintaining strong alignment and sharing of resources, strategies, processes, and tools.
- Support a Customers First Mindset while carrying out daily duties.
- Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.
- Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements:
- 3-5 years of professional translation communications experience within a corporate, public sector or agency environment
- University degree in translation, linguistics, communications, marketing, or related communications designation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Complete fluency in both English and French (both written and verbal)
- Knowledge of the structure and content of English and French languages including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, and pronunciation.
- Relevant experience in language editing and/or proofreading
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Demonstrated strong translation and writing skills (in both English and French), for range of communications channels and formats, including: online, media materials, presentations, newsletters
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Team player and a relationship-builder who thrives in collaborative environments
- Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to interact effectively with customers at all levels of the organization and to work in a team.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and under minimal supervision
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
