The Sustainability Advisory and Finance (“SAF”) team is looking to add a qualified individual to its growing and dynamic team. We are looking for a Sustainability Advisor and Finance Analyst or Associate who will be based in Calgary and will work alongside the dynamic and gregarious energy team.

The role will appeal to an existing investment banking analyst or associate that is naturally curious, works well with multi-disciplinary teams, is a self-starter and is looking to gain experience in sustainability advisory and finance.

Your role :

  • Monitoring developments in ESG trends, regulations and transition technologies
  • Analyzing ESG/Sustainability reports, TCFD reporting and CDP disclosures
  • Working with various areas of National Bank Financial to identify business opportunities for clients and coordinate messaging
  • Developing and maintaining extensive databases and valuation comparables
  • Preparing external and internal presentations to aid in advising clients on ESG best practices, integration, reporting disclosures and messaging
  • Collaborating with our banking partners to deliver a differentiated product for our clients

The position reports to the Managing Director, Sustainability Advisory and Finance, and you will work alongside the Montreal SAF team. The SAF team was formed in June 2021 and is working alongside our National Bank Financial, Financial Markets business partners to advance the field of sustainability advisory and sustainable finance through delivering a differentiated product centered on ESG principles, sustainable finance and transition.

Competencies required:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Engineering
  • Prior education experience in sustainable finance or environmental science considered a benefit but not required
  • 2+ years of industry or financial markets experience
  • A positive, enthusiastic, and co-operative attitude
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver on tight timelines and build relationships at all levels of the organization

Preferred competencies:

  • Solid understanding of evolving ESG issues, with strong emphasis placed on GHG emissions, carbon taxes and carbon offsets
  • Knowledge of sustainability standards and frameworks including SASB, GRI, CDP and TCFD
