Public Works – Operations Support

Contract Full-Time, Duration: 13 Months

Reporting to the Supervisor in Environmental Education you will develop and implement education, outreach, and service experience initiatives to support ongoing programs of the Region of Peel’s Public Works Department as identified in the Environmental Education Strategy. This will be done by maintaining working relationships with internal and external partners to identify focused needs and program synergies. It will include evaluating industry best practices for education, outreach and service experience, and incorporating results into relevant program initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized guidance and advice in the research, development, implementation and evaluation of new Environmental Education programs, including the Customer Service for Construction Projects initiative to support Public Works priorities
  • Compile, analyze, and monitor data to assess program performance and effectiveness and make programming recommendations
  • Conduct research, edit and write audience-appropriate content, effectively simplifying complex information and technical language for a general audience
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal clients and external partners to support the goals of the Environmental Education Strategy
  • Support the delivery of client services and the implementation of communications enhancements
  • Work with Communication Services to coordinate the design and creation of Environmental Education related resources and materials
  • Support the collection and analysis of customer feedback to support process improvements related to Environmental Education programs, including for Public Works construction projects
  • Support the development of customer service processes and communications tactics to enhance communication and service experience
  • Provide training and guidance to co-op students to assist with program development and implementation
  • Participate in community outreach and special events such as fairs, home shows, and the Peel Children’s Water Festival
  • Represent the Region on various internal and external committees

Qualifications:

  • University degree or technical diploma with relevant studies in science, environment, engineering or related field, with at least three years of combined relevant experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
  • Knowledge of water, wastewater, waste management and transportation programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Experience coordinating and overseeing projects or programs
  • Proven customer service and public relations skills
  • Strong research and report writing skills
  • Strong computer skills, utilizing MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Class “G” license in good standing
  • Ability to obtain a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check to the satisfaction of the Region
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum Expectations and/or experience instructing in a classroom setting would be an asset
  • Experience or understanding of Infrastructure Construction Projects would be an asset

Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 2 Copper Road, Brampton, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
