Vice President, Accounting
Reporting to the President, the VP Accounting is the 6 Executive team member at the Rohit Group of Companies. The VP Accounting is accountable for the financial reporting and risk management of operations along with the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. This includes the development and monitoring of key financial metrics to effectively report on the performance of the organization against plan.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Responsibilities:
- Analyze financial results and health with respect to profits, trends, costs and compliance with budgets and provide recommendations to the executive team.
- Direct all aspects of accounting operations and oversee transactions related to general ledger, receivables, payables, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Issue regular status reports and updates to the executive team.
- Ensure our records are maintained in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage tax planning and compliance with all required federal, provincial, local, payroll, property and other applicable taxes.
- Review major contracts and mortgage documents related to the organization’s corporate debt.
- Allocate material, human, and financial resources to implement organizational policies and programs.
Financial Reporting, Assurance and Compliance:
- Be responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of financial information to appropriate groups including internal parties, government regulators, and outside agencies.
- Ensure legal compliance of all our corporations.
- Accountable for corporate audit.
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of presentation of the financial statements for the Rohit Group of Companies including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements.
Risk Management
- Design and implement a robust control environment leveraging the COSO framework.
- Design and implement an overall risk management process for the organization which includes analysis of the financial impact on the company when risks occur.
- Risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience.
Definition of success in this role at the 12-month mark:
- Successful transition of Edmonton related companies to Microsoft Dynamics.
- Development of management accounting reporting, financial reporting, and audit process.
- Recruitment and retention of effective accounting team.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of senior VP, Accounting or similar experience managing a large, profitable portfolio for a medium size company is required.
- CPA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent qualification is required.
- Demonstrated leadership skills across large and diverse business and ability to recruit and develop high-performing team.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to manage and deliver large-scale programs in highly complex environment.
- Exposure to end-to-end Finance function and provision of shared services.
- Influential personality to drive results and facilitate the growth of a profitable business.
- Proven track record in project cost accounting and reporting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of operating in a matrix reporting structure.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in internal controls and processes is required.
- Effective time management and prioritization skills in managing multiple projects.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Exposure to different styles and personalities of business unit leaders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a self-starter, and driver of change.
