Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (“CTC”) is one of Canada’s most admired and trusted companies. With world-class Owned Brands and exciting market-leading merchandising strategies, we are continually innovating with purpose: to be there for Canadians from coast-to-coast. We are relentlessly focused on innovating at every level of our business, investing in new technologies and products, and doubling down on the best talent to drive the company forward. It is an especially exciting time to join Canadian Tire and its group of companies.

Our Finance team plays a key role in helping us stay competitive in the ever-changing retail environment by providing accurate, timely, and high-quality financial analysis and advice. Reporting to the SVP, Corporate Finance, this role helps drive the organization to achieve its financial and strategic targets by ensuring capital is appropriately allocated, designing and operating effective corporate and capital planning process and messaging our financial story both internally and externally.

The primary focus of this role is to provide leadership, guidance, and specialized expertise to your team as they drive the organization to achieve its strategies, priorities, and deliverables.

At Canadian Tire we work flexibility embracing ‘Hybrid’ whereby individuals utilize a combination of working at a CTC campus and or virtually in service of outcomes. Determined by managers, decisions around work location will be made based on business and team needs and grounded in a desire to support individual well-being and personal needs. Our goal is to empower teams and individuals to make the right decisions for them, and we expect that to look different for everyone.

What you’ll do

  • In consultation with senior management, set financial targets for the Company’s short-term forecasts, annual plan, and long-term outlook and aspirations.
  • Consolidate forecast, plan, and outlook submissions from the business, deliver insights and challenge/support the financial results.
  • Lead the preparation of meaningful and innovative internal and external corporate reporting that communicates the story behind the financial performance of the Company to senior management, the Board of Directors, and investors.
  • Oversee the in-depth analysis of the consolidated results of the organization.
  • Drive the capital allocation strategy for the organization and support the CFO and Investor Relations team in creating shareholder value, including thought leadership on valuation and performance relative to our retail peers
  • Oversee the enterprise investment planning process and ensure capital is being deployed effectively and is aligned with the strategic priorities of the Company.
  • Provide finance support for special projects and M&A transactions, working closely with Corporate Development (i.e., due diligence, scenario analysis/financial modelling, insight identification, integration).
  • Provide finance support to the Strategy Office and Business Architecture team, in particular the Company’s Enterprise Initiatives, Operational Efficiency program and strategic priorities.
  • Provide finance support to HR’s Executive Compensation team and the Management Resource and Compensation Committee (MRCC) including leading the development of STIP and LTIP targets and determination of actual performance relative to targets
  • Provide leadership and overall direction by leading and fostering a high-performance team with a continuous improvement mindset and inclusive working environment.

What you bring

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • 15+ years of related work experience
  • 7+ years of experience in a Senior Leadership role
  • Proven ability to set priorities and lead, directly and indirectly, a high performing team to success through cross functional collaboration.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking that uses data and financial models to drive insights.
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience with the ability to focus on both the detail and big picture.
  • Outcome driven, critical thinker that can drive to decision through influence, with a proven ability to collaborate cross functionally across all levels.
  • A continuous improvement mindset for both the team and across our entire business, with the ability to connect the dots within the organization.
