ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently looking to a hire a results-orientated, self-starter Accountant to join our Shared Services Accounting team! Reporting to the Supervisor, Shared Accounting Servies, you are responsible for ensuring that accounting for financial transactions are in accordance with company policies, controls, and accounting standards, and that generation financial statements are accurate and complete. You will support Gas and Energy Transition team with recording their gross margin and reporting their financial results.
This is a full-time salaried position that will lead and support initiatives to improve processes for Generation accounting and across the Shared Services team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILTIES
As the Accountant, Shared Accounting Services, you will:
- Peform financial transactional activities for the Gas and Energy Transition team and provide guidance and clear direction to the fleet
- Conduct month-end activities for the gas fleet such as calculating accruals, posting transactions, and reviewing financial results for completeness and accuracy
- Support the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly SOX controls, account reconciliations, and FRAP requirements. Support audit requests with company’s external auditors with respect to the Gas and Energy Transition segment
- Identify, recommend, and implement both process improvements and best use of reporting tools to improve the efficiency of processes and resulting output of the group
- Explain monthly accounting results
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- CPA and/or pursuing a CPA designation
- Knowledge of IFRS as it relates to the Generation business (IFRS 15 and 16)
- Direct experience with financial systems and processes with demonstrated experience in process improvement
- Excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Proficient communication skills both verbally and written
- Expert computer skills, especially in Excel, enabling quick and efficient completion of tasks; able to transfer this knowledge and skill to others on the team
- Working knowledge of SAP
- Highly organized, capable of simultaneously managing numerous tasks for both self and staff
- Proven working knowledge of Project Systems and Capital Systems and Accounting
- Knowledge of TransAlta’s accounting policies
