Are you a collaborative team player looking for a new accounting opportunity? You’ll provide daily cash application support to our Downstream business and support our large network of retail and wholesale customers. You’ll be responsible for handling cash clearing activities, booking related journal entries, investigating unidentified cash, performing balance sheet account reconciliations and will act as the primary liaison to the credit collections team.
You will use your expertise to:
- Manage relationships with various financial institutions to trace payments, process customer refunds, handle returned items, lockbox processing issues
- Provide daily support to other analysts on the team and assist with problem resolution to ensure daily performance targets are met for critical work
- Act as primary point of contact for all credit inquiries, required to develop collaborative relationships to support the collections team to manage aged receivables, provide guidance on Canadian payment rules, process customer enrolments to automate incoming payments and complete customer declarations
- Execute critical daily tasks related to quality control between multiple systems, including daily balancing and monthly general ledger reconciliations
- Process monthly entries to record specialized non-petroleum sales and expenses
- Complete complex analytical analysis, including making recommendations to streamline current processes
- Participate in projects that involve testing and integration of new bank technologies and file enhancements
- Develop solid expertise in systems and processes related to point-of-sale credit card transactions and credit card billing

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
- Six years of related experience in accounting, finance, payments, or banking
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related discipline
- Completion or enrolment in a CPA, CFA financial designation or equivalent
- Previous exposure to financial accounting processes such as cash, general ledger and bank reconciliations or accounts receivable/accounts payable
- Experience with and a solid understanding of SAP fundamentals
- Accounting experience and a good understanding of fundamental accounting principles
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- A continuous improvement and growth mindset, with curiosity to seek greater knowledge of systems and processes
Preference for:
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Power Tools
- Demonstrated experience working in a financial institution

- You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
