This posting is for a 4-month Student Summer 2022 placement with a start date of May 2022, and end-date of August 2022. In order to be eligible for this 4-month Student position, you must either:

What is the opportunity?
The Analyst, Environmental & Social Risk will support the Environmental & Social Risk team in executing their climate risk mandate and further developing their programs and capabilities.
The Environmental & Social Risk team oversees the enterprise process for identifying, assessing, prioritizing, and monitoring environmental & social risk issues, including climate risk. This includes:
- Facilitating the identification and assessment of environmental & social risks across the enterprise both at a portfolio and transaction level.
- Developing capabilities in the measurement of climate risk in our portfolios (e.g. financed emissions, assessments of physical and transition risk, and forward-looking scenario analysis).
- Collaborating with stakeholders within Enterprise Risk Management (Portfolio Strategy and Stress Testing teams in particular) and with groups across Group Risk Management, business and functional units on climate, environmental, and social risk issues, data, and strategy.
- Reporting on environmental & social risk to meet internal and external reporting requirements.
What will you do?
The Analyst, Environmental & Social Risk will:
- Support the identification and assessment of climate risk by performing ground up research and analysis and assisting in the development of presentations and speaking notes.
- Assist in the analysis and synthesis of diverse datasets (e.g. economic, geographic, climate, and financial data) for the purposes of climate scenario analysis for transition and physical risks.
- Support in the use and development of scenarios and methodologies to quantify progress on climate-related goals.
- Support the preparation of reporting on climate risks to senior management and the Board.
- Assist as part of a team to review and determine best uses for environmental & social risk data more generally.

Must-have
- Ability to work comfortably with large, mixed datasets
- General understanding and awareness of environmental, climate, and social risk
- General understanding of finance and banking
- Excellent writing and research skills, strong interpersonal skills and conceptual thinker
- An ability to understand and explain complex concepts
- Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
Nice-to-have
- Additional technical experience, such as GIS, SQL, Python, or dashboarding (e.g. Tableau)

- Work in an area of risk that is top-of-mind for business, government, and international bodies
- Work with a wide variety of groups across the bank, including:
- The Environmental & Social Risk team, the Portfolio Strategy team, and the VP, Enterprise Risk and others within Group Risk Management;
- Other areas within RBC such as the Sustainable Finance team and the Corporate Citizenship team as well as other front line businesses.
- Gain a broad understanding of how the bank operates, including the role of our business segments and functional units, and how the bank may be exposed to emerging trends within the industry.
- Develop fundamental knowledge of risk management, portfolio management and risk governance.
- Develop experience in and familiarity with a diversity of climate-related data
