Business Need/Purpose of Role:

We have an immediate opening for an Assistant Finance Manager to join our Mississauga location. Reporting directly to the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), this role contributes to the cyclical FP&A processes within the organization, including forecast, budget, and interpretation of financial reports. Additionally, you will be responsible for the overall Budget and Forecast requirement for the Comminution Division where you will be required to help actively manage financial performance of large capital projects, lead the Budget and Forecast and analysis of Comminution division, assist with month end and quarter end financial reporting as needed as well and handle local general accounting queries.

Objectives & Measurement – Key Responsibilities:

• Tracking actual sales results versus Budget/Forecast
• Supplying relevant data for weekly sales review meetings
• Participating in ongoing internal compliance testing
• Completing Month End variance review and analysis
• Monitoring cost/gross margin side for the large capital orders
• Performing the loading of monthly financial, quarterly financial forecast and annual budget data from local ERP software into the Group reporting software (Cognos)
• Assist in preparation of monthly reporting package
• Compiling sales and gross margin data for the quarterly forecast and annual budget, working closely with Regional Sales Managers on trend and anomalies analysis
• Assist in preparation of the forecast and budget reporting package (sales trends, bridges, etc.)
• Statutory reporting as per Group guidelines
• Assisting Internal and External Auditors during Annual Financial and Compliance audits
• Take initiative to question variances and improve processes
• Tracking actual sales results versus Budget/Forecast
• Supplying relevant data for weekly sales review meetings
• Perform non-routine, complex accounting assignments involving the application of generally accepted accounting practices and requiring highly developed analytical skills and business acumen
• Assist in performing quarterly forecasts and yearly budgets as well as preparing analyses and reports on forecast results
• Work actively with the Head of FP&A to ensure all Divisional and Group reporting requirements are achieved with high quality submissions
• Coordinate the preparation and analysis of financial reports and budget estimates for the BU within established deadlines
• Interpret financial reports for management comparing actual vs. projected results and explaining variances in a thorough and timely manner
• Prepare financial and economic analysis projects and interpret results for management
• Undertake special analytical studies such as the identification of trends or the evaluation of current control systems
• Assist in the formulation of long and short-term capital and operating plans
• Coordinate accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions as needed
• Ensure that locally, proper processes, reporting and controls are in place for various financial reporting requirements
• Actively manage the financial integrity, reporting and forecasting performance of large BU capital projects
• Work closely with the GM, Comminution to ensure accurate forecasts and weekly projections are prepared. Understand the underlying business activities driving the variances and be prepared to communicate them in timely manner
• Assist with the preparation of reportable Bids and Cashflow requirements
• Participation in preparation of quotes from a finance aspect including: review of forecasted costs, review of overhead rates used in quote and preparation of cash flow projections.
• Other duties as assigned and required

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

• Professional accounting designation and a minimum of five (5) to (10) years progressive experience in relevant finance and accounting roles.
• CPA Designation required.
• Experience in cost accounting and general accounting experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment would be an asset.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills and a significant interest and ability to understand and question what is behind the numbers.
• Excellent computer skills, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power Point. Strong knowledge of ERP systems, ideally SAP and experience in Cognos is preferred.
• The position will have non-standard hours of work and may be required to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business.
• Travel to other company locations and/or vendor sites required as necessary.
