Job Description

We are presently recruiting for an Associate within the Corporate Accounting and Procurement team.

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, the Associate will assist in the oversight of the centralized corporate accounting operations for CPP Investments and its global offices, with a focus on the Asia entities. Key accountabilities include oversight of the monthly closing of financial records process and establishing and maintaining proper books and records for the CPP Investments operating subsidiaries to support financial data integrity for reporting purposes and to maintain accountability and control over corporate assets.

Role-Specific Accountabilities:

Accounting Operations

  • Assist in managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting functions. This includes maintenance and reconciliations of general ledger balances, cash, fixed assets and the approval of expense payments. Contribute to the monthly closing of financial records process working in conjunction with other finance teams.
  • Establish and maintain proper books and records to support financial, tax and regulatory reporting. Ensure financial data is reconciled, accurate and timely and the processes are operating within a robust control environment.
  • Proactively identify, enhance and develop new accounting processes. Drive process improvements with a broad view of building scalable and efficient processes taking into consideration industry best practices.
  • Assist in the monitoring and managing of the global accounting service providers to ensure performance objectives are met.
  • Assist stakeholders on accounting related matters; respond to stakeholder and auditor queries on a timely basis.
  • Stay current on developments in accounting standards, policy and regulations that affect CPP Investments’ operating subsidiaries. Able to clearly communicate impact and suggest process changes.
  • Partner with our International teams to help collaborate on the timely preparation of management and regulatory reporting deliverables.

Project Management

  • Manage projects or initiatives end-to-end, integrating stakeholder needs, adapting to changes and resolving issues. Contribute to other department-led initiatives, representing Corporate Accounting’s views, as required.
  • Partner collaboratively with finance and other internal stakeholders to resolve cross-functional issues and gaps. Propose and implement solutions that reflect an understanding of business needs, organizational impact and governance and controls.

Policy and Procedures

  • Develop guidance on accounting procedures that are clearly documented and scalable working in conjunction with key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls for the team and ensure key control process documentation is updated.

People Management

  • Provide leadership, regular feedback, training and mentoring to the team to support a positive, inclusive and highly effective team culture.
  • Manage and maintain effective external relationships with local accounting service vendors, external auditors and industry peers.
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent, with a professional accounting designation.
  • Minimum 7-8 years of accounting and operations experience in a leadership role.
  • Committed to continuous improvement with view of building scalable and standardized processes within a robust control environment.
  • Solid interpersonal skills suited for a professional and thoughtful corporate environment.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Build and foster relationships with key business partners across the organization.
  • Exceptional time management and project prioritization skills. Ability to work under time sensitive deadlines and adjust to urgent situations.
  • Experience with Oracle Financials general ledger is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a high performing culture, open to and comfortable with evolving changes and new challenges.
  • Exemplifies our Guiding Principles of partnership, integrity and high performance.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent, with a professional accounting designation.
  • Minimum 7-8 years of accounting and operations experience in a leadership role.
