Job title: Associate Director, Environmental Services
Job description: Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Physical Resources, the Associate Director, Environmental Services, acts as the senior leader and point person, responsible for the delivery of custodial and grounds services for 144 building, over 1,000 acres and 7.1 million gross square feet of floor area for the University’s main campus. The Associate Director must have a thorough and seasoned understanding of the custodial and grounds services operation, one of which provides 24/7 service to the main campus. While providing leadership and guidance to seven direct reports, this position must plan and execute effective and efficient custodial services; developing modern training methods and cleaning processes, overseeing the procurement of supplies and equipment; strategically analyzing staffing levels against industry standards. This position will represent the University on relevant internal and external committees and task forces as applicable.
Requirements of the position include: An undergraduate degree in a relevant field (finance/HR preferred.), C.E.M. or R.E.H. designation, coupled with a minimum 15 years’ progressive management experience. The successful candidate must have broad professional experience in the field, including hands on, in-depth experience. Supervisory skills are essential, as are excellent management, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills, superior organization skills and proven problem-solving ability. The incumbent must have significant experience in staff management, budgeting and cost control, scheduling, worked in a unionized environment, strategic staff planning, health and safety standards and must have an expert level and technical understanding for those services they directly oversee (ie. Custodial, Hazardous Conditions, Landscaping and Plant Management, Waste Management, Sustainability). Candidates must thrive in a team environment and excel in fostering teamwork and collaboration within the Department and the entire Directorate. Experience in effectively using custodial productivity software; workloading, cleaning applications and equipment needs is essential and required. Excellent knowledge of the MS Office suite of software and a broad background and interest in ISSA and APPA standards is expected. Professional experience in the education sector (colleges, universities) is preferred.
