Job title: Bed Allocation Officer
Job description: The Bed Allocation Officer (BAO) works collaboratively with the Patient Flow Navigator and the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for the appropriate assignment of beds for admissions, transfers and discharges of patients. Facilitates information on current patient flow activities.
Qualifications:
- Medical Office Administration Program required
- Medical Terminology required
- Human Resources Certificate Preferred
Experience:
- Meditech Admission and Order Entry Module, ER tracker, PICS, Kronos/ESP
- Microsoft Office including e-mail and internet
- General Medical Office administration skills
- 1 year in an Acute Care Facility utilizing technology to manage a patient placement and flow
Responsibilities:
Bed Allocation
- Transfer and discharge of patients
- Facilitate bed placement
Data Quality Maintenance
- Data quality corrections to patent information as applicable
- Daily changing of Most Responsible Physician and or service as directed
- Input and maintenance of Hospital Census data for the Ministry of Health reports for finance
Reports Management & Distribution
- Printing and distribution of reports
- Maintaining notes on patients awaiting repatriation
- Operating Room surgery lists
- Operating Room add on & trauma room bookings forms
- Expected surgery admission reports
- Criticall and Bed Registry data
- EMCT data
Communication
- Maintain communication with both internal and external customers
- Telephone: linkages with all hospital departments, physician offices, other facilities, patients and family members
- Direct: attends daily bed meetings to gather information for bed placements
- Fax: manages information updates form nursing units and external sources
- Meditech ED Tracker: assists in the updating of the emergency room tracker for the admitted patients
- Participates in bed planning strategies with Leaders and staff
Staffing
- Functions as Short Call Clerk off hours (and as required) and provides all duties of this position description
