Position Summary:
This course examines the intersect between legal and business issues that challenge entrepreneurs as they develop their ideas, launch their new venture, finance and manage their growth and assess possible exit strategies. Real world scenarios will be examined to identify various legal strategies employed by successful and unsuccessful new businesses. Law can be a tool to build competitive advantage or a tool to disrupt. Key topics covered in this course will include intellectual property law, advertising and marketing law, commercial financing, and government regulation of competition.
Qualifications – Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Qualifications – Discipline: LLB/JD degree from a Canadian University
Qualifications – Areas of Specialization: Called to the Bar of Ontario or equivalent law society of another Canadian Province or Territory, a current member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario, current relevant experience as a practicing lawyer, demonstrated knowledge of intellectual property and competition law, legal experience with start-ups and entrepreneur clients or experience running one’s own law practice, demonstrated ability to teach law to undergraduate business students, ability to maintain regular and reasonably convenient office hours, demonstrated ability to deal with student management issues such as timely grade assessments and academic misconduct, demonstrated ability to deal with in-class and out-of-class technology, familiarity with the content of BU451.
