Job Description
WHAT’S THE JOB?
The Business Finance Analyst will report directly to the Vice President of Energy Services and be supported by the Finance Team. This position functions as a critical business partner with Dexterra operations to effectively manage and control the business. The Business Finance Analyst produces and analyzes financial information critical to business interests, creates and presents reports to management regarding accounting data to enable knowledge-based decision making and forecasts.
The Business Finance Analyst performs some or all of the following duties:
- Performing analysis on the monthly financial statements by contract for accuracy and completeness, with full commentary on variances to forecast/budget.
- Work closely with Business Finance team and Operations in generating analysis and insight into the relationships between key performance indicators, revenues, cost drivers and understanding the financial results of individual contracts.
- Assists with inventory balance sheet GL account monthly reconciliations.
- Review AP and AR Documents for accuracy and proper coding.
- Supporting month-end activities, revenue, expense accruals, and costs allocations.
- Supporting audit requests.
- Reconciling inventory systems to ERP.
- Compile and review appropriate back-up for journal entries.
- Compile and review appropriate back-up for quarterly IFTA reports.
- Assists Business Finance Team with reporting, and special projects as necessary.
- Provide support to internal departments as required (e.g. Accounts Payable, Billing, Credit & Collection, Contract Admin)
- Ensure compliance with and suggest appropriate changes to internal controls documentation.
- Develop and refine month-end processes to streamline procedures and create efficiencies. Identify areas in need of improvement through root cause analysis and recommend/implement corrective actions.
- Work closely with business finance and operational groups to ensure monthly transactions are captured in a timely and efficient manner.
- Other ad-hoc requests as required.
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Will typically possess a relevant educational background in Finance, Accounting or Business.
- CPA (CA, CGA, CMA) is an asset.
- Must have at least 1 to 3 years’ experience in financial accounting role.
