Job Summary
As a member of the Campus Security team providing security, personal safety, parking, motor pool and emergency planning and reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, the Campus Bike Centre Clerk/Supervisor is responsible for the delivery of the Campus Bike Centre bicycle loan program.
Campus Security oversees bicycle and equipment lockers on campus and works collaboratively with the Office of Campus Planning and Sustainability to manage the more than 4000 biycycle parking spaces on campus.
Since 2003, the UVic bike loan program has provided the campus community with refurbished bikes through the work of organized volunteers. As a valued Transportation Demand Management and Sustainability initiative, the program seeks to:
- Provide high-quality up-cycled and refurbished bicycles through a volunteer involved program for students, staff and faculty.
- Support access to an affordable and low-carbon transportation option for campus members, while contributing to improving community health, well-being, and environmental stewardship through active transportation.
- Maintain equity, inclusion, sustainability, peer-to-peer learning, partnerships and transparency.

Job Requirements
Should have recent experience in a similar position or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Related experience should include:
- Experience in bike maintenance and repairs
- Experience in event coordination
Working knowledge of:
- Supervisory principles and practices
- Operational knowledge and experience with a variety of computer software including MS Office suite
- Capable of understanding and carrying out institutional policies and procedures e.g. PCI, privacy, bullying and harrassment, etc.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to understand, diagnose, and maintain functions of a bicycle
- An aptitude for mechanical works
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills
- Strong clerical skills, including the ability to learn new systems and procedures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to relate well and work effectively within a team environment, as well as the larger UVic community and external agencies
- Highly service oriented with a willingness to assist in maintaining a student-focused environment
- Initiative, good organizational and time management skills, and ability to work with deadlines by prioritizing accordingly
- Ability to work with public and volunteers and maintain excellent customer service.
- Ability to effectively carry out duties and responsibilities without direct supervision
- Ability to work under pressure and meet definitive schedules
- Ability to lead and motivate volunteer staff
- Ability to direct the work of others to meet objectives
- Ability to process documentation with accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to respectful and inclusive relationships
- Ability to appropriately diffuse or identify unusual customer interactions for escalation

- Ability to move materials up to 20kg
