Overview
Global Finance is responsible for managing all financial budgeting and reporting for KPMG International and its subsidiaries. This includes the following:
- Levy and collection – issue levy and recharge to member firms, collections and reporting
- Payable and disbursements – invoice processing, approval and payments for over 50+ significant functions
- Management and financial reporting – interim and annual audited financial statements; actual versus budget monitoring and reporting; loans and investments summary; capitalization and maintenance of capital asset register
- Direct and indirect taxes – to ensure complex compliance with several foreign reporting tax jurisdictions; prepare corporate tax filings for filings in various countries
- Treasury functions – weekly and monthly cash flow projections; manage the initiation and maturity of currency hedges
Full time Head of Operations will manage Global Finance Core Operations daily activities, assisting with various projects and initiatives in Finance Operations. The role is based in Toronto, Canada.
This role will work directly with offshore service provider, manage the ongoing relationship and performance of Global Finance offshore service provider for operational finance and tax services.
The incumbent will manage key professional relationships for the organization including, but not limited to, auditors and banks, member firms and vendors. She/he must build relationships with the Global Finance Core Team, Functional Controllers and various key KPMGI stakeholders and member firms, promote and model the KPMG values.
What you will do
Business Operations
- Manages the ongoing relationship and performance of Global Finance offshore service provider for operational finance and tax services
- Reviews KPMGI’s control framework and associated policies, practices and standards with the offshore service provider and ensures training and job documentation are provided, as required
- Ensures the offshore service provider has its own robust control framework and associated policies, practices and standards
- Monitors performance against SLAs on a consistent basis based on input from key stakeholders
- Works with the offshore service provider to resolve gaps and takes corrective action as necessary
- Identifies additional opportunities for offshore low value activities and/or efficiency improvement
Treasury and Cash management
- Oversees the day-to-day cash management and short term funding requirements of the global operations, ensuring all necessary funding is achieved in a timely manner
- Manages banking related costs and consolidation of banking services, bank accounts and online bank administration for KPMGI and KPMGI subsidiaries accounts
- Responsible for short and long term cash flow forecasts and makes recommendations for facility draw downs
- Analyzes and recommends deposit/investment strategies including hedging recommendations to limit exposure to exchange rate risk
- Manages the banking relationships
- Drives KPMGI banking tender process, manage account opening process and ERP integration of new banking accounts with existing SAP platform
Taxation
- Oversees of 1099 and 1042 US, Canadian and UK WHT compliance and filing processes
- Responsible for Dutch, UK, Canadian and other foreign jurisdictions indirect tax compliance and reporting process conducted by offshore service in accordance with established guidelines and policies
- Ensures that new developments in various jurisdictions tax rules communicated by the global tax team are properly analyzed and conveyed to the appropriate people in the company; processes are developed to ensure that the company is in compliance with laws and regulations
- Key point of contact for any indirect tax questions from KPMGI budget holders, suppliers or member firms
- Liaises with the global tax team to provide advice to member firms on tax issues relating to country levies and recharges
Financial Operations
- Manages and delivers the quarterly forecasts and annual budget for Financing and Exchange costs
- Oversees the invoicing, credit notes, and collections process in compliance with AR collection and escalation policy
- Manages the KPMGI and its subsidiaries wire, payroll and other payments in accordance with established internal controls
- Serves as a point of escalation for A/R and A/P issues
- Responsible for the review and implementation of internal control policies in compliance with corporate policies and processes.
- Oversees KPMG GRC and KGSG ASPAC Financial activities, manages year end activities, interim and annual audit
- Supports Deputy CFO with other duties as assigned
Reporting
- Produces Liquidity, Hedging and AR reports for Executive Leadership
- Prepares various AR, AP and ad-hoc reports for Deputy CFO and Global Director of Finance
- Identifies key business issues and raises them to Leadership for decision-making and thought process
Global Finance Technology and Solutions
- Oversees and improvement of SAP system and KPMG Commit tool in collaboration with other global functions and SAP support team
- Active solutions and provide a feedback to the Finance management team to drive technology and operational improvements
Leadership & People Management
- Leads and develops the onshore and offshore accounting teams including the Global Finance Manager and Global Operations Manager
- Mentors the offshore accounting team with recommendations regarding work allocation, training, and problem resolution
- Manages key professional relationships for the organization including, but not limited to, auditors and banks, member firms and vendors
- Conducts training and coaching regularly to ensure employees are mentored and can apply essential skills and knowledge to the performance of their daily activities with consistency and effectiveness
- Participates in regular meetings as required, participates in various interdepartmental meetings to resolve issues and improve efficiencies as required
What you bring to the role
- Strong technical accounting skills (IFRS)
- Profound knowledge and technical skills in financial management, controllership and process management
- Strong knowledge of SAP S4 HANA
- Finance professional with at least 10 years of experience in large complex organizations operating in multiple jurisdictions
- Demonstrated experience in leading change and managing people in a complex organization
- Proven record of technology management or implementation of finance systems
- Strong leader who demonstrates accountability working with various global stakeholders and diverse global teams; builds long-term relationship
- Global mindset, experience of working in cross-border as a member of multinational teams
