Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance Engineering, the Mechanical Engineer is a critical role in developing and executing engineering and capital strategies for the site to maintain safe, reliable, efficient operations. The role plays an integral part in the success of the facility by supporting initiatives that allow us to meet safety, environmental, financial, and capacity utilization targets.

This position is located in Redwater, Alberta, Canada and is not available for remote work.

What you will do:

  • Promote safety leadership in all activities by ensuring all assigned projects, work, and work activities are compliant with departmental, site and company policies, goals, and objectives
  • Promote an atmosphere of excellent business ethics and integrity
  • Own mechanical design of plant changes through the MOC process
  • Analyze maintenance history and failure data to prioritize issues and opportunities
  • Develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies and tactics for fixed and rotating equipment
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis investigations
  • Conduct equipment assessments during maintenance and inspection opportunities for repair quality, fitness for service, and life expectancy evaluation
  • Specify pressure equipment repairs
  • Develop equipment specifications and review equipment purchases and installations to ensure that equipment is built to recognized practices
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement efforts for plant by supporting Best Practice Maintenance and Reliability efforts
  • Work with Site Trades Groups, Planners, Engineers, Inspectors, and Projects Groups
  • Support department long-term maintenance plan and asset management goals

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 4 years experience is required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA is required.
  • Exposure to pressure vessel and piping codes (ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, ASME PCC-1, ASME PCC-2) is required.
  • Exposure to API 579, API 571, API 510, API 570 and API 650 is preferred.
  • Exposure to Alberta regulatory requirements for pressure equipment is preferred.
  • Advanced experience working with Excel and an understanding of VBA programing language is preferred.
  • Experience using PV Elite, CodeCalc, and CAESAR is considered an asset.
  • High level of problem solving skills and comprehension is required.
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and organizational skills.
