POSITION: FINANCE COORDINATOR
The Finance Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the overall management and reporting of the financial affairs of the Coldwater Indian Band, including the management of the day-to-day accounting affairs, and assisting in the development and administration of accounting policies and procedures.
Area of Responsibilities:
- Administers the financial affairs and budgets of the Coldwater Indian Band in accordance with the Band Financial Policy and as directed by the Band Administrator and Chief and Council;
- Manages the day-to-day accounting affairs of the Coldwater Indian Band, to include payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general accounting, special project accounting, and statutory and regulatory disbursements and reconciliations;
- Provides financial information and support to the Band Administrator and Program Coordinators in the development of proposals for funding and informs Program Coordinator of the receipt or status of funding;
- Manages the accounting software program(s) including the entering, storage, retrieval and backup of all financial accounting information;
- Assists in the development and review of annual operating and capital budgets and administers the budgets as approved;
- Ensures that all financial statements are accurate and completed monthly and annually for review by the Band Administrator and Chief and Council;
- Develops, in consultation with the Band Administrator, financial and accounting policies and procedures, and administers as approved;
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of all employees in the Finance Department, to include the development of employee training and development plans;
- Assists in ensuring that the “employer-employee relation” is administered in accordance with applicable Federal Regulations;
- Provides general departmental human resources management functions;
- Provides on-going liaison with federal, provincial, and external funding agencies.
Qualifications & skills:
- CA, CMA or CGA designation or equivelant accounting designation with a minimum of five (5) years experience in a similar environment, two (2) years of which must be in a supervisory position;
- Experience in a First Nations environment, including experience with funding agencies, payroll, financial reporting, and budgeting, prefered;
- Good communication, problem solving and team work skills;
- The ability to adapt, undertake multiple tasks and respond to changing priorities is imperative;
- Possess strong computer skills using Micro Soft products and Xyntax accounting systems;
- Obtain a criminal records clearance and bondable;
