Job title: Finance Coordinator, Low Carbon Fuels

Job description: Role :

Reporting to the Director, Commercial & Renewables Strategy, the incumbent will be responsible for validating low carbon fuels and compliance reports as well as performing related accounting activities/journal entries to provide accurate and up to date cost of compliance figures.

The coordinator will also play a key role in working with the corporate accounting and marketing teams to ensure accurate internal reporting of low carbon fuels activities as well as ensuring the right costs are passed through to the market. He/she will ensure the compliance deadlines are met and make sure the accuracy of reports and information are being prepared for regulatory filings.

Responsabilities :

  • Develop robust financial reporting and tracking tools for the Canadian low carbon fuels and compliance programs
  • Develop in depth understanding of current and future low carbon fuels regulations to be able to interpret and identify key financial concerns and impacts for Valero
  • Maintain low carbon fuels credit banks and communicate our position internally
  • Record low carbon fuels credit transactions entries to ensure accurate accounting for regulatory purposes
  • Coordinate accounting practices & standards with corporate accounting and risk management teams
  • Participate in low carbon fuels audits program and controls (internal and external)
  • Implement new accounting and financial structures in line with new regulations
  • Develop and implement month-end activities for the Canadian low carbon fuels and compliance programs
  • Participate in economic analyses
  • Review financial models and/or simulations associated with regulatory projects and contract
  • Reconcile GL accounts in coordination with corporate finance groups
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting or analysis to management as required.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a relevant field
  • CPA title or candidate, an asset
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Bilingual – French and English (spoken and written)
  • Experience in the energy industry, a strong asset
  • Strong SAP & Excel knowledge, an asset
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and forging a path forward
  • Manage multiple complex files simultaneously and under pressure
  • Results-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
