Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Budget and Forecast, the Financial Analyst, Budget & Forecast will work with multi-functional teams to provide financial expertise and guidance in support of the annual budget and quarterly forecast process. The Financial Analyst is also responsible for gathering, analyzing, interpreting and disseminating complex information required for the annual budget and quarterly forecast processes. This position will also assist in the development and modeling of the University’s multi-year forecast and will be working closely with the human resources department to track and maintain the completeness and accuracy of approved positions.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

Budget & Forecast Analysis – Annual Budget Cycle Support:

  • Performing real-time analysis and dissemination of both community-submitted and internally-sourced budget & forecast data and supporting the consolidation of this data for presentation and approval by the University’s Audit & Finance Committee
  • Using the aforementioned data to support the preparation and modification of multi-year forecast modelling to support strategic decision-making by the University’s senior leadership.

Budget & Forecast Analysis – Position Control:

  • Supporting the real-time control and organization of approved positions by working closely with the Human Resources department to ensure completeness and accuracy as well as using this position data to prepare in-year and multi-year labour forecasts. Community Support – Training and Education Provision:
  • Developing, coordinating and providing training and education sessions, as required, to the University community to enhance their ability to both complete their budget & forecast deliverables as well utilize available financial information systems effectively to support those deliverables Delivering professional financial guidance, leadership, education and support to the University community including senior University community members, and Finance and Administration Officers in the areas of:

Community Support – Guidance & Leadership:

  • budget and forecast preparation and reporting
  • the use of financial systems to submit, review and report on budget, forecast & actual financial results
  • financial performance
  • accounting treatment
  • financial accountability

Required Skills

  • The candidate possesses excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • The successful incumbent’s expertise also includes strong financial system and software package skills (e.g. Banner, FAST, MS Office with expert-level skills in MS Excel), excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and planning skills, the ability to multi-task, to evaluate issues and provide alternative solutions.
  • The candidate will be a team player and remain calm under pressure. In addition, the candidate will be a self-starter, proactive and service oriented

Education

  • Candidates must have a post-secondary Commerce degree and a CPA (Certified Professional Accounting) designation
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required Required Experience
  • Candidates will have 3-5 years financial reporting experience, budget development expertise, and excellent financial modeling experience, with a focus on the use of financial systems to support all.
  • Knowledge of the University sector and University finance specifically (preferably within a non-for-profit environment) would be ideal.
