Financial Accountant

(Permanent Position)

Overall Responsibility:

Perform a range of financial reporting functions, including maintaining certain aspects of the general ledger; ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Corporate standards; supporting monthly/quarterly/annual reporting; and continuous improvement of financial reporting methodology.

Accountabilities:

• Timely and accurate preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure that transactions are recorded properly, with a focus on intercompany transactions.
• Accurate preparation and review of the monthly financial reporting package issued through ArcelorMittal’s consolidation and reporting system and efficiently respond to any follow-up questions.
• Receive financial information from other areas within finance and other departments and process and analyze that information to facilitate the timely and accurate preparation of the financial statements and related reporting
• Timely and accurate preparation of certain monthly and quarterly financial information to management
• Preparation of compiled financial information and reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Implementation of changes in accounting policies
• Understand the implications of new and unusual transactions within the assigned month end accounting duties
• Identify and implement process and system improvements
• Ad hoc analysis and special projects as required

Education & Accreditation:

• Completion of a university degree in Accounting or Commerce with a major in Accounting, and a minimum of 3 years of related work experience is preferred.
• Professional accounting designation (CPA or CMA, CGA, CA) is an asset.

Skills & Knowledge:

• Advanced knowledge of financial accounting and internal controls over financial accounting
• Excellent knowledge of IFRS including technical accounting and reporting requirements
• SAP system experience is an asset
• Results oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities
• Ability to work well independently and within a team environment
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Continuous improvement mindset

Work Environment:

• This position is currently eligible for remote work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the future, this position may be eligible to work remote on an ad hoc or part time basis.

Hours of Work:

Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads.
