About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Policy & Corporate Services, as the Finance and Recoveries Intern you will support the day-to-day financial administration of Communications Nova Scotia. Through this role, you will manage processes related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial document processing, general ledger transactions, electronic interfaces and accounts reconciliations. You will assist with monthly and annual accounting procedures in accordance with government and internal policies, including reconciliation of expenditures and recoveries which support the operational units within Communications Nova Scotia.

Typically, within this role you can expect to:

  • Conduct the agency’s day-to-day procurement processing requirements
  • Create call-ups, Purchase Orders (POs), Departmental Purchase Orders (DPOs) and other procurement documentation, as required
  • Manage all Accounts Receivables and Payables which includes effective recording and reconciliation to SAP
  • Prepare financial statements and reports as requested
  • Maintain internal controls and processes and procedures for the administration of Communications Nova Scotia’s corporate project management system/software
  • Respond to supplier inquiries

The Finance and Recoveries Intern serves as the main liaison on all project statements for clients, as well as POs, DPOs and invoices for suppliers.

About You

Graduation from a post-secondary institution, within a business/accounting or related field of study, within the last three years is mandatory.

To be successful within this role, you will also:

  • Have experience with accounting procedures, procurement processes, preparing financial reports and statements
  • Be proficient in using computerized financial accounting, Microsoft Office Suite, presentation and spreadsheet software packages
  • Have excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task to meet priorities and constant pressure of deadline
  • Possess strong organizational and analytical abilities
  • Have a proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Be client-focused, with strong interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written)
  • Have the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Possess strong problem-solving ability to manage financial discrepancies and client inquiries

Assets:

  • Experience with SAP or similar software
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Pay Grade: PR 06

Salary Range: $1,994.99 – $2,074.62 Bi-Weekly
