PRT operates a diverse network of nurseries in Canada and the United States enabling us to grow a wide variety of high-quality container forest seedlings for all climatic and site conditions. Annual production of 630 million seedlings makes PRT/IFCO the largest producer of forest seedlings in North America. We operate 5 bareroot nurseries across the South and 23 containerized operations.

Job Description

Position Summary:

As a member of the local management team you will have the opportunity to work with the most innovative conifer seedling producer in the industry with a focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Nursery Manager, you will oversee all aspects of greenhouse and open compound seedling operations and lead an experienced team that takes pride in meeting our customer expectations. Your focus will include safe work procedures, productivity, planning, continuous improvement activities, customer focus, and promotion of PRT.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five or more years of horticulture or crop production experience
  • Experience leading and managing crop production teams
  • Leadership skills in promoting teamwork
  • Strong planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to problem solve and conduct root cause analysis
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Knowledge or experience with continuous process improvement in a production environment
  • Mechanical skills/abilities are an asset

Situated just 20 km Northwest of Salmon Arm, BC, Tappen is nestled in the recreation paradise of the South Shuswap, conveniently located on the Trans Canada Highway. The South Shuswap embraces the southern shores of Shuswap Lake, and although long renowned for its recreation, the area has much more to offer, including scenic green landscapes, specialty hobby and traditional farms, light industry, forestry and a large artisan community. Summer and winter activities abound as a result of a very moderate climate. The South Shuswap offers boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, alpine and cross country skiing, and house boating, as well as access to a first-class championship golf course.
